R.I.P. Mr Winston Ma

Sad news. I frequented his audio shop in Hong Kong in the late 80s, Golden Strings in Central. I got to know about 'world music' that he sells in CD or LP format. And got to hear some really unforgettable speakers like Duntech Sovereign and Spendor S100. His passion for music is his legacy.

He personally sold and delivered my Koetsu Red in his Hk store in the mid 80's.mwill,never forget that day. Showed me an original pressing of the Weavers At Carnegie Hall which he refused to sell despite my prodding.

What a great loss :(

Winston's funeral was today and was well attended.

In his honor, I drove my AMG to his funeral, playing the Mercedes-AMG "Passion" CD that he produced.

I have been pulling out my FIM XRCDs and playing them in tribute. The sound is so good, truly spectacular in fact. We all owe Winston for pushing the envelope on sound reproduction.

Gary,...thank you very much for posting the pictures and the guest book entry so that we can post our thoughts and condolences to Winston's family and friends.

When he found out that he had tumours in his brain and he had limited time left, he strove to leave a legacy and doubled and tripled his efforts to produce music for audiophiles around the world. Some of the fruits of this included the Decca Supreme Stereophonic Legacy box set and the latest re-issues of Jazz at the Pawnshop, Cantate Domino and others. At the time, he called it his "Dream Project" - there were still many more recordings in the project that have been curtailed by his passing. Ki Choi was working with him all the way up to his seizure in March transcribing some of his best mastertapes.

Here's Winston - you can see his passion for the music when he was holding the original Proprius mastertapes that we had hand-carried back from Sweden for him.

Wow...haven't seen "Dolby A" printed on anything like that in a lot of years; I'd love to just hold those tapes for 5 minutes!

He was a great man,...what you write about him in his final days is no surprise at all. He truly lived for this hobby and did so much good that we will all experience for years to come as a result!

BTW....I am interested in having a side discussion with you about your firm's speaker offerings; I've admired them and big Infinity's for years (and have owned some of the mid-size Infinity line)
and am contemplating a future move to a "final reference speaker". Let's figure a way to talk about the upper-line Genesis products sometime next week. Drop me a message with the best way
to contact you (please).

I bought 2 of his LP remasters. They are the references for those recordings. RIP Mr Ma. Good work.

RIP Winston Ma.
The legacy of your work will not only live dearly with us, but will be even cherished by our next generations.

Been offline, just read this. What a disappointed to read. RIP WInston!
