RCA Living Stereo - New Reissues - Analogue Productions (QRP pressed)

I hope these will be better than ORG (118) reissue of Prokofiev Love For Three Oranges Suite (Mercury SR90006) which is a complete disaster.

What's wrong with this reissue?

These are the first titles to get reissued at 33 rpm on 200g wax, this was was from Acoustic sounds mass email advert last week:

I will be VERY interested in comparing the Gaite, Lt Kije and the Lalo to my 1s1s originals. Will be nice to have a back-up copy and not have to add wear to my original pressings. The Reiner sound will also be a very interesting release, I hope they haven't blown it on these.

This is not a (very) positive review. Read carefully and read some comments. This recording is all about the dynamics, soundstage and bass slam and you don't get that on this reissue. In my book, this is a disaster. Listen to the Classic Records versions and it doesn't matter which one and you'll be blown away. Maybe it's naive to expect even better sound than this but for $50+ you're entitled to something special...

Thanks, Marcus. I have the ORG version but haven't listened to it yet. Is the music itself highly recommended (I bought it blind as I've enjoyed some other recent ORG reissues)? I'm wondering if it's worth seeking out a Classics version.

I am going to listen to both carefully once again. I have a classic records 33 rpm on Carity Vinyl and of course the ORG 45 rpm. I do not recall anything objectionable sound wise with the org version...

Elusive disc's email today says they're also doing Scheherazade, Pines of rome and pictures at an exhibition - Chad has now got all the orchestral 'lollipops' covered. the only gap i have yet to fill is the milhaud creation du monde, which i missed when Classic did it.

So I listened to my Classic Records 33 on Clarity vs the ORG at 45 rpm. I felt better bass definition/clarity with the 45 rpm. That said, I did not compare to the 45 rpm single sided Classic Records version that I suspect will surpass the 33 on Clarity. I have never seen the 45 rpm on Ebay until I searched today. I found a sealed 45 rpm on Classic records for $100.00...a steal, imo. I will render my final opinion once I receive the 45 rpm classic records version and listen to it.

Thanks, Christian. I noticed two sealed copies on eBay for $110. Presumably you bought one of them...

I take it you like the music?

The music is very good, don't worry and The Scythian suite is the ultimate test material you will NEVER hear on ANY audio show or demo because there are so few systems that can handle those dynamic swings and bass attacks. Oh, and by all means buy Classic Records regular 33 rpm reissue. No need for 45. I did the comparison a few years ago and guess what, I thought 33 was better. 45 is not necessarily better than 33 but I will make another comparison in order to be sure.

Marcus, id like to hear the scythinian suite on your pressing because every version i've owned mastered from that recording has the tell tail sign of overloaded mic/tape distortion on content above fff. I'm refferring to the original pressings, the first round of CDs approved by wilma cozart fine and the ORG 45 rpm vers. I dont have the classic 45 but im sure the tape saturation is their in all its glory

Just bought the 200g Clarity Vinyl of this:

It better be good! :)

I have it and love it. It's the only 45RPM Classic that I've heard/opened so far. I'd say you made a great choice!

Thank you Sir. I have heard nothing but good things about it, so I'm looking forward to its arrival. :)

What is your opinion of the original Mercury mono of this performance?

Unfortunately I don't have the original mono but if I'm allowed to speculate a bit, I doubt it's better in dynamics and bass.

Actually Marcus, those are usually two areas where the monos are much better (also some prefer monos for solo instruments but I'm not in that camp). Think about it. Companies cut the stereo bass but weren 't afraid of the mono bass. Mercury/Piros were one of the few houses that could produce a dynamic stereo cut and that's why many other labels went to them for mastering in the early days of stereo recordings.

Take LSC 1806. The organ is basically MIA on the original RCA stereo release but there in spades on the mono issue. And that was with a stereo cartridge and if what we've been told is correct, should be even better played back with a new age mono cartridge.
