RIP Janos Starker

Was just playing his BACH cello suites this morning.

That's incredibly sad news; had the privilege of seeing Starker perform many times in NYC. My favorite Starker story took place many years ago at a rehearsal concert at Columbia Univ. Starker was the guest soloist with this "youth" orchestra who were performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto. As I often do when seeing soloists, I brought along a copy of his Mercury/Bach/Cello recording for him autograph after the concert. As Starker was graciously signing his recording, he looked at me and said, "Ah, the sins of my youth." Also always remember him having a beautiful young lady on his arm.

Janos Starker was a professor at IU school of music. He was a true icon and was treasured on the IU faculty.

Rest in Piece. Janos Starker will continue to live through his wonderful recordings - some of my favourite cello recordings.

One of the best digital cello recordings I have is this 26/96 DVD-Audio. Music is also brilliant!

His performance of Max Bruch "Kol Nidrei" with the LSO is one of my favorites for cello and orchestra. RIP Janos Starker.

I just listened to that last night in his honor.

I am just finding this bad news out. What a terrible blow to classical music. I love this gentleman's playing especially of Bach's music. He was a very blessed talent. Are there any recent reel to reel tapes of his music?

As a result of this thread I also bought it. Beautiful music, thanks to those who suggested it

This guy's fingers are like little spiders when he is playing fast...may he rest in peace!
