Yes, that worries me too. I used to love to go to seafood restaurants in China. They have live tanks with amazing seafood that you hand pick and they cook them for you. Then I told the story to someone from there who said to avoid it all costs due to heavy pollution where these fish come from .I don't eat anything that comes from China, and make efforts to find out the source when attempts are made to obscure that it comes from China. (Feed for cattle, fish-farms, etc. in many instances have significant China-sourced components in it. Make the effort to find out what people are using.)
That's my problem. Having learned to love fish from eating a lot of Japanese meals where high fat content is praised, it is hard for me to pass up on fatty fish and especially the belly portion that unfortunately seems to have the most pollution. It is a shame that as humans we have turned the most healthy and useful portion of the fish (the fat) into something that holds the toxins we throw in the water!I'm not averse to bottom feeders (what would happen to my Lobster-count then?). I prefer fish that have oil in them, or cod, cod tongues, roe, etc where I know the source. I eat Tuna, swordfish, etc - but not frequently, due to the possibility of a higher mercury content in these.
For as long as I remember, I have wanted to learn to fish properly but have never spent the time to really do it and have success at it. This season I am determined to make progress. Pictures will follow if I do .BTW - there is nothing like fishing, whether at sea or in lakes and rivers. Highly recommended, and preparing your own meal from fresh fish is a joy.
Good to see so many people into fishing. Wonder if it makes sense to have a thread or two on it here...
