SET amp owners thread

Thank you. I had it built. A friend of mine is a cabinet maker. It isn't really an acoustic wall - just something nice to look at that hides the TV.
How does that wall open up to view the TV? Do you have a TV mode picture?

I prefer montesquieu's vintage tannoy drivers in modern Canterbury cabinets with silvercore 833c 20w amps to the devore in many ways

I find the big Tannoys a bit too veiled in the midband but they can be fun. I need to have superb transparency from the lower mids through the highs or no matter the other strengths I am put off. That (and the size) is the main reason I have passed over Tannoy. Something about the way they have executed their co-ax design is not quite right and you can hear it. I almost bought a pair of those Silvercores that had made their way to Switzerland and for a very nice price but at that time I had no idea who they were and so it seemed like too much of a risk. They run the tube very conservatively if I recall.

Tannoys sound different in each application. In fact all stock ones I haven't liked at all. These are modded. The guys who do this are of the opinion that their drivers are great but crossovers are poor. So they change the crossovers. Also they use vintage tannoy drivers in modern cabinets that they damp more, and imo sound way superior to stock Canterbury or Westminster set ups that I have heard, though I will continue to hear more

Well, to my knowledge, I have only heard stock Tannoys. I can believe the xover is critical and perhaps not Tannoy's strength.

That's a bit of a special pair of Tannoys Kedar is referring to. You'd have to listen to them to make a valid comment. It's the best pair I have ever heard barring the Kingdom Royale. But that is a different speaker again.

I onw Audiopax Maggiore M100, 100W in Class A1 SET with 6 KT-88 each. I currently use EAT tubes.
They drive Tidal Contriva G2 speakers.

I take it you followed Jeff Day's site?

Simple system, but that gives me pleasure!
Kuzma XL + Reimyo CAT777 + Airtight ATM300 (Takatsuki 300B) + Tannoy Westminster Royal.
