SFP Rolling? Anyone?

Replaced my Finisar FLTX1475D3BTL SFP's with OptoSpan PSFP-11DT31K002 SFP's. Noticeable improvement in image clarity and dynamics, additional resolution, and reduction in noise. These combined with an upgrade to OptoSpan's Super Low Loss Fiber Optic Cable have made a very positive improvement in my streaming sound quality.

OptoSpan publishes specs on their products, and then tests each product prior to shipping and includes those tests in the packaging. I'm not a big measurements person but it's nice to know they back up their published specs
Ok I've got the OptoSpan SFPs as of today. I am still using the cable I used with the Finisar 1475. So, in comparing the two SFPs, they're the only difference in the system. And there's quite a big difference. I agree with what you're describing in terms of image clarity and reduction in noise. But the Finisar tends to be a more "exciting" sound. Snappy, Slappy, Crisp, Slammy. Perhaps more textured. More impactful in the low end for sure. The Finisar generally sounds louder at the same playback volume. But the OptoSpan does seem a bit more natural, making the Finisar sound a bit overdone at times. The OptoSpan has a more expansive, permeating, space-filling sound. Yet, somehow, the Finisar is addictive.

It's almost like, depending on the genre of music, I might prefer one over the other. TO be continued...

Try replacing one Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL with a Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL. The combo was the magic trick, for me and a couple of others who also tried.

I am one of those folks and I can attest that this combination is spectacular. I have a box full of other SFP that will never be used again….Thanks for the tip Dan.

Have you tried the OptoSpan?
I tried that Finisar combination, and then the Optospan using the same fiber. I liked the Optospan better. It improved further when I inserted their high precision fiber (low reflection loss).

OptoSpan PSFP-11DT31K002 and OptoSpan LCELITE FO both on order from www.sanspot.com. I’m still looking for a 20M version of the Cisco SFP-10G-AOC that bazelio recommended. I have some messages in, I’m sure someone can order it.
I’ve got the Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL and Finisar FTLX8571D3BCL on order too. Already have the Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL, so gonna have a big ol’ SFP shootout when the rest come in. Also awaiting a run of the Commscope FFWLCLC42JXF075 to pair with the Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL, per After Dark recommendation. Thanks for all the info and recommendations everyone, I’ll let you know what I think.
It's been a month. Anything to report?

Presumably you use the OptoSpan single mode fiber? I'll try it out this weekend.

What would be the best OptoSpan solution for singlemode links? Both SFP and SFP+?
I mean for a possible replacing one Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL and Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL ?

That’s a rather insulting question, but I can appreciate that there’s a need to ask it given the number of newbies to this sort of thing. ;):)

Why on earth is it insulting? I opened the datasheet of the OptoSpan SFPs and it didn't specify single vs multi mode. I asked the retailer and they advised the single mode fiber. As I've said before, I've mixed single and multi mode cables with the same SFPs. Both do work

I’ll apologize for my cranky early morning mood, having had a near zero sleep first night here at the Renaissance for AXPONA.

Having said that, on the Optispan website it is pretty clear it’s a SM device. From the page in their website:

“Using FP technology, it operates at a nominal wavelength of 1310nm coupled to an LC optical connector.”

Idk?

I thought both single mode and multimode devices can:
- Use Fabry-Perot laser technology
- Operate at 1310nm wavelength
- Connect via LC connectors

Anyways, the SM fibre cable should be here soon. I'm acclimated to the OptoSpan SFPs and now feel they're objectively better than Finisar. .I'm very curious how the cable changes things.

can being the operative word. ;) :) Certainly true, although 1310nm is the standard wavelength for single mode fiber. The normally accepted alternate wavelength for multimode is 1300nm.
