Wow! At first I thought this was a gag, since even competent youth orchestras perform far, far better than this, until I googled.

The Portsmouth Sinfonia was an orchestra founded by a group of students at the Portsmouth School of Art in Portsmouth, England, in 1970. The Sinfonia had an unusual entrance requirement, in that players had to either be non-musicians, or if a musician, play an instrument that was entirely new to them. Among the founding members was one of their teachers, English composer Gavin Bryars.........Bryars was interested more in experimenting with the nature of music than forming a traditional orchestra. Instead of picking the most competent musicians he could find, he encouraged anyone to join, regardless of talent, ability and experience...........Many modern composers and musicians found this to be interesting and even profound; the comedic aspects of the music were merely a bonus,

Hi

I think Brian Eno was behind releasing one of their album (The one with the best more hilarious Also Sprach ...).

I , however, refuse to look beyond the comic value of their rendition. Reminds me of the story of a modern painter who attached a apaint brush to his dog tail, the wagging created abstracts figures that some people found sublime...!!!, until the artist who I think was Marc Chagall informed them of the hoax ... If one strains enough, one will find depth in anything .. This rendition is to me (and I hope others) hilarious and I am looking for the LP or CD version...
