Very late to this party… so many words (more eloquent and provoking then mine)
For me to enjoy music or voice reproduction there has always had to be two things: Suspension of disbelief requires a realistic tonality and good sense of the venue it was performed in. I’ve been around far too many musicians and spent far too many seasons in concert hall seats listening to acoustic instruments, not to mention all the other electronic music performances which arguably have a tonality and rightness too.
And imho, “HiFi” is an ambition or positive archetype of something to strive for in reproduction in the best sense. Let’s never make it a dirty or derogatory word.
Again Karen, I believe you have done an amazing job of communicating definition and priority in what will bring us far more joy in listening. Brava
