"Heavy transients and bass passages" are when you have a lot of musical activity, if you will, during a passage of a song. Think of the real cannon blasts on the 1812 Overture or the first 30 seconds of Yosi Horikawa's "Intro", off of his Vapor album where you have a heavy (low frequency) bass.
