Great! You are lucky these regulators have very good protection, in my most recent experience with the tantalum cap there was plenty of smoke, as it took out the inductor.

Yes, you were right that the short circuit was in the power supply branch.
I'm waiting for the calibration tape. Tandberg is already mechanically and electrically functional. I'm curious how this machine plays, to what extent what other users say and write about it will match my listening.

Gentlemen, I have a question. How do you demagnetize the playback track and heads? Do you touch the head surface with the demagnetizer? What devices do you use for this task? How often do you do it? What is your experience in this area?
No, you don't touch the head, for that reason most tools have plastic tip covers. I don't do it often, some people do it every day, it is up to you. In my experience the routine effect is minor, unless you let things go out of hand.
I pretty much exclusively use the HP 400a or 3400A meters. The difference is the 3400A is newer and it reads true RMS value, which is not important in this case. I also have the Leader with two needles on it, and I know some people love it, but I personally am not crazy about it, to me it is too confusing when you need to take a quick reading.
