Amused to see that nearly every American president is on that list. Also some notable omissions - e.g. no Aung San Suu Kyi, no Dalai Lama. Arguably Margaret Thatcher was a more effective politician than Jimmy Carter or George W. Bush, yet those two are on the list. Don't like Thatcher's politics? Well, both Hitler and Stalin are on the list. Also some nobodies - like Peter Ueberroth (organizer of the 1984 Olympics).

Yeah, prominent politicians always get more credit than they deserve, but this list includes Gandhi and ML King, which puts it way ahead of coins, bills and Mt. Rushmore. And it has Gorbachev in there twice, at the right time for the right reasons, which could mean that Time gets that Reagan wasn't really the guy who tore down that wall, opened up the USSR, and began the end of Soviet communism. And that puts them ahead of nearly half of America.
I'm a Jesuit educated Catholic. For a long time I felt that huge disconnect with the Church. Historically, we were under the usual "Orders" that really did focus on strict dogma. I had a chance to attend a mass with the SJs where it was celebrated as they would have before Constantine. A real breaking of bread so, to speak, without the fancy goblets and robes. Pope Francis brings that sincerity back. It's the total opposite of fire and brimstone psycho terrorism that has led to innumerable religious wars. Good choice Time, I also agree with Myles, weak bunch of other choices.
