Every audiophile knows that a system to work well all the components have to be good and should have synergy but can some one throw some light when one has saved to upgrade what should it be that would make the biggest difference and in what order.

In my personal experience, given that the loudspeaker is cooperating with the room and one has multiple sources, it's the preamplifier that yields the biggest difference since all sources pass through it.

For me it's the content first; then how to faithfully reproduce it in our less than perfect Rooms.

Always get the best (1) recording material (highest recording faithfulness), and with your preferred musical emotions.

Then the synergy (balance) between the (2) loudspeakers and the room.

Then the (3) source; be it Analog or Digital, or both.

... (4) Preamp.

... (5) Amplification.

P.S. I'm not even sure if this is what you were 'lining' for.
