Violin videos: solo or with small ensemble

I think this is a far better example of an old (much older even) horn that is delivering lifelike violin sound...

IMO this is impressive sound.

Yes, quite impressive. It sounds effortless. It's not perfect on all aspects, you can certainly find limitations, but no aspect of the sound is "exaggerated". Hard to explain. The video gives a good sense of how the sound fills the room. I'm sure you get great sound regardless of your listening position. There's really good resolution, and sense of clarity, to the point where the instruments have that natural delicacy/finesse.

A different WE system...this time from 2019 but also with really great violin sound.

Yes, this YouTuber used to do excellent system recordings like this but unfortunately stopped, whether it was due to peer pressure or the fact they revealed his system/components under review to be poor sounding I'm not sure.

Even with a phone recording you can get a feel for the sound of this system.

Only comparable to live and perhaps one or two other systems in the world

Honestly, I think this is quite far away from a reference level playback of this recording. Tonality is overly warm and instruments are "melted" somewhat together and the low end impact is completely missing from this very dynamic track that has huge bass and tympani rolls. Not to mention it is not very transparent at all. Timbre of the violin is shifted downward so that it sounds more like a viola...probably some of the consequence of a roll off in the highs. Sorry to be a wet blanket but at least what I hear on the video isn't very good.

I appreciate your candor, Brad. I think we usually agree about videos, but it seems not in this case.

I found this in Tang's thread and just bought the LP. In my opinion, this is a great sounding presentation on this system. Very natural violin tone and very nice balance between the soloist and the orchestra. Really superb.

Those speakers are beyond huge! I doubt most people would have a listening room large enough to do them justice. Although, I would love to hear them in the flesh... I don't think any youtube video would do them justice.

I will say though, Ida is one of my all time favorite's! I've paid hundreds of dollars for some of her vinyl records and don't regret it one bit.

Thanks for posting this.

Best wishes to all,
Don

Yes, this violin sound is amazing... but later in the video the bass sounded muddy to me via my headphones. Maybe the limitations of a youtube video? Would love hearing both these WE's and the speakers from the previous Tang video in the flesh though to really hear what they are capable of, even though I doubt i'd ever have a room large enough for either of them, lol.

Best wishes,
Don

I understand your comments Brad. It is simply a difference of opinion. No big deal. The WE speakers also sound good to me.
Actually, you either hear what I am hearing or not. If you hear what I hear but that doesn’t bother you then fine; however, if you don’t hear what I am describing then that is an issue.

The two sound very different. Based on the video, which one sounds more "natural" to you? :)

I prefer the violin in the Munich 2023 to that in the 2019 video. The recordings are all different, so there is that. Overall, I think the Eurodyn sounds the most natural because of the balance with the rest of the instruments and the overall performance. I do here the violin's tonal balance as a bit warmer, but I have heard a big range of violin tones, and some are warmer, some are thinner, some more string, some more wood. All three recordings sound like a violins to me, but very different violins. Too bad they are not of the same recording.

It’s not just the tone…it’s the resolution, transparency and presence that is just on another level for the WE/Silbatone systems.

Heifetz Sibelius. Our panel and SS amp members could learn from this guy. Very good video. Speakers seem slightly less in midbass could be due to amp match or room or speaker, worth investigating
