I built it. The driver tube is a 6A6 triode choke capacitance coupled (using an Intact Audio/Slagle nickel plate choke) > 2A3 > Tamura F7002 permalloy OPT.WHat is your 2a3 amp? Self built or from a maker?
Nice! Mine uses interstage transformer coupling. It has 6C45P input tubes. The power supply is tube rectified with all non-electrolytic caps and choke filtered. All transformers are from Silvercore in Germany.I built it. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing Silvercore iron from Germany but my buddy Joe Roberts has a few. Hopefully I can hear them once he gets his hifi all set up.Nice! Does Joe still have Altecs - and if so what amps does he use? He was a big fan of Altec A5s and their woofers
This was his set up before he moved back to South Philly: Altec 755As in Silbatone boxes, the two horns at the center are Klangfilm also used in the GIP Lab Monitor 1s which I had the pleasure of hearing during a recent visit to Manila, AFAIK, Joe plans to pair those horns with his GIP 18" field coil drivers, the large cabinets contain Western Electric 728Bs which will be transferred to WE757A clone boxes + WP12027 horns by Trieu Ly of Lycan3R, Gates CB500 turntable + Silbatone SE300B amp.![]()
Ever since I heard a pair of WE753As, WE753Cs + a single WE757A in the 90s, I've been chasing that sound. I couldn't afford them even in those days. The original 757a sounded nice in Munich in 2017 or 18. They were small so did not have the impact of the big ones for the audience but nest small speakers i have heard and filled a big room
I never get tired of listening to Grumiaux...From Arthur Grumiaux's Bach Six Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin Philips set

DIY Triode'd 6C6 Choke-Capacitance Coupled SE2A3 amp driving Altec 753C speakers
What LP is that?I found this in Tang's thread and just bought the LP. In my opinion, this is a great sounding presentation on this system. Very natural violin tone and very nice balance between the soloist and the orchestra. Really superb.
Who is performing? Is this Maxim Vengerov? My ex played this Britten Violin concerto for the Britten Violin competition, so I got to know this piece very well.I found this in Tang's thread and just bought the LP. Have to hear it on good headphones then I can say something. It is Ida Haendel on EMI. What do you think of the system presentation on the video?
I'll chime in. Usual caveats about videos. Personally, I don't value "scale" in and of itself and the sound of Je2a3's system, for example, is more to my liking. It offers a slightly more balanced sound as well, just easier to listen to.It is Ida Haendel on EMI. What do you think of the system presentation on the video?
Honestly, I think this is quite far away from a reference level playback of this recording. Tonality is overly warm and instruments are "melted" somewhat together and the low end impact is completely missing from this very dynamic track that has huge bass and tympani rolls. Not to mention it is not very transparent at all. Timbre of the violin is shifted downward so that it sounds more like a viola...probably some of the consequence of a roll off in the highs. Sorry to be a wet blanket but at least what I hear on the video isn't very good.It is Ida Haendel on EMI. What do you think of the system presentation on the video?
