I like the first Ricci more than I thought I would.

For me, Firebird was too stream of consciousness and haphazard sounding.

I prefer the kind of mathematical coherence and rising energy repetition of Beethoven and Mozart.

One evolves to Stravinsky. Firebird Suite is one of the greats of the 20th C. imo.
If you like mathematical coherence, you may really like Bach.

I went on a Ken Wilkinson buying spree a while ago but just got around to playing this factory sealed album last night.
Absolutely wonderful recording (Wilkie doesn't make bad records!) and thoroughly wonderful music.

interestingly, Wilkie was the recording engineer for tracks 2 and 4 recorded at Kingsway Hall in 1965 and 66, but not the engineer when tracks 1 and 3 were recorded at Kingsway in 1970.

Late afternoon here. A bit cold out. This music soothes my soul. There is just "something" about Mr. Corelli. Perhaps being played through Italian speakers enhances the experience. :)

Thanks. I wonder what the difference is between the SD Card set and the CD set apart from one is Flac 24/192 and the other standard WAV....

Mastering work is not done at 16/44. Final mastering of the physical discs was done for CD printing at the appropriate rates. A look at how much information above a certain level is present on a file by file basis for the 24/192 SD card version would be a deciding factor. Both versions actually. A mix of tape and vinyl from various sources was used for this set. If you have not seen the following video it might impact your decision making.

Are you aware of the Divina Records offerings?
