Yes the JBL's would have been all alnico and those cabinets would have been just awful to carry and push around compared to the neo drivers of today. Probably the EV's as well. Have you ever lifted up a new neo 15" driver?? It's a hoot they weigh a fraction of either an alnico or a ferrite driver. Same with the compression drivers, feather weights compared to the older drivers.
