Yes I have posted about this but since you brought it up let me offer a couple of updates on the subject.
Jonathan Horwich from International Phonograph Inc. is actually making all new "purpose recordings" just for R2R, no CD no LP, just tapes!
He is recording Chicago Jazz musicians in one pass, no manipulation, no tom foolery at all.
To my thinking that is some news worth talking about for the Analog Tape Movement (ATM).
Jonathan gave me a copy of his first recording at RMAF 2012, I played it many times and people liked it quite a bit.
Here is what Robert Harley editor of The Absolute Sound posted on the TAS web site. Interesting I think since Robert's assignment was to report on speakers under $20K and we had $25K speakers in the room. At the time Robert commented to us that he really liked the tape and seemed very interested in the techniques Jonathan used on the recordings. I understand that Robert was a recording engineer some years back and had used R2R for recording during his career.

The Von Schweikert VR-44 Active loudspeaker benefited from a most unusual source: a jazz recording made exclusively for release on open-reel tape made directly from the master. The label, International Phonograph Inc., uses purist techniques and vintage microphones for its tape-only releases which are priced at $150 per title.
The sound had an uncanny sense of realism played back through the latest United Home Audio UHA-Q Phase 11 tape machine.
I met Jonathan at RMAF and have just received 2 tapes this morning. Josh Berman Trio, Chicago Retro and Warne Marsh, At The Ice House. I will post pix and comments later this weekend.

Mr. Jonathan Horwich is a very fine gentleman who loves jazz. I purchased the Clare Fischer, Per Henrik Wallin and the Warne Marsh tapes from him and love them. As a matter of fact, these were my first reel to reel tapes running at 15ips.
The sound was good, but I am looking for much better when I get my Tascam 42-2B back from the gentleman who is building my outboard tube reel playback pre amp with seperate power supply. I took my tape deck in to him yesterday so that he can set it up to play IEC tapes as well as running cables from the playback heads out for use with my pre amp. He will also modify it so that I can use the internal
electronics or the outboard tape pre amp. I am not rushing him and told him to take his time. I believe he is one of the best tech/engineers in Georgia.
I had Jonathan's sampler (got to write it up!) and highly recommend the Claire Fischer! I'd describe it as a more upbeat Gil Evans!
Just ordered two tapes (Josh Berman and Wayne Marsh) and waiting on the Claire Fischer. Pianist Per Henrik Wallin, though relatively unknown to audiophiles, was a renowned pianist in Europe!
It's wonderful how technical you are in order to get photos of the tapes on the forum. And, you've hit it right. I don't understand how Jonathan can do what he does for the low, low, low prices he charge. And the music is awesome. I am totally pleased with all 3 or the recordings I have purchased to start my collection. Thanks for this posting sir.
I didn't see much on the website in the way of equipment or technical information related to the recording/dubbing process. Is there anything included with the tapes?
