Greetings all
I'm coming to NY in May for a week ( travelling to USA from New Zealand to attend my son's college graduation) , then going to a few places before heading home. I have 5 nights in NY. I haven't ever made it there before and am very keen to sample some live jazz. Of course I know about Birdland and Blue Note, have many recordings from Birdland in particular. I have tickets to see Delfeayo Marsalis at Birdland ( super excited) but was wondering if there were any other "must see" places that I should look at? Yes, I can Google, but hearing recommendations from people who've been there means so much more to me.
Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions.
Regards
Kevin

Yep 123 , Thank you! I did think of that after I posted, should have thought of it before. Walking distance from where I'm staying, the Vanguard Orchestra playing on the Monday night . Tickets got, that's two nights sorted! Can't wait. Thank you for the reply , appreciated.

Jazzdoc , Mike , thank you for taking the time to reply. I must have 30 recordings in the Live at smalls series. So that gets added to the list as well. And one of my favourite pianists , Bill Charlap, is playing at Dizzy's the week i'm there. Yay. What a week I'm getting lined up. Thank you everyone . Greatly appreciated.

The Jazz Museum in Harlem hosts live events - you may want to check the schedule:

The space is small. The museum itself has very little on display, but you can listen to unissued recordings from the Bill Savory collection (which is not something you will hear anywhere else) - best to call ahead to make sure they are available because on my last trip to NY they unfortunately were not.

My wife and I saw Bill Charlap at the Village Vanguard. :)

Thanks Hopkins. I have the Mosaic set of the Savory collection but I'd grab a chance to hear more. Thank you .
