Have you tried unsubscribing from "alerts"

Check your preferences

I don’t mind getting the alert. It just seems like it should disappear once you have read the thread. Not a big deal. Just thought I would mention it.

Just to point this out to admin, probably not an issue that matters much, but it unusual behavior (bug?) that caught me out:

If a link (URL) to a forum message is posted in another message, clicking the link can yield two different behaviors.

Click below to go to a message in a thread (you will leave this page but stay in this window).
https://www.whatsbestforum.com/thre...ther-turntable-argh.23947/page-97#post-551416

Now, click the link in the post you arrived at.

Now, a new window opens showing a forum post - you're still in the forum of course. However you as a forum user are no longer recognized in that new window. In other words, one's login authorization is lost in that new window. That's one anomaly.

But what appears even stranger is the difference in behavior (same window v. new window) between clicking a link here and in the message itself. Why do you stay in the current window in one case but open a new window in the other - and lose your authorization?

tima, I have done that and am still logged in. Maybe you can look at your settings in your browser, it is not retaining the cookies when it pops up in a new window. Also when you log in the the forum, do you click 'remember me'?

Heh - that was a quick reply - thanks!

Ok, I'll check...

I have the 'Stay Logged In' box checked.

Using Firefox 64.0.2 - latest.

In FF options the only cookies that are blocked are: Cookies from unvisited websites.
Otherwise cookies are accepted and retained until expiration.

In the case of clicking a link and staying within the same window I am still logged-in.
When clicking a link, going to a new window, I am not logged in - in that window - however I am still logged in within the window I came from. (yes refreshed page.) Just tried what I posted and behavior here is as described.

How do I upload pictures so that they actually show up on a thread?

I already had that problem with my review on new speaker stands:

https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/review-sound-anchors-signature-speaker-stands.26655/

where only links show up:

View attachment Sound_Anchors_speaker_stands.jpg
View attachment Sound_Anchors_speaker_stands2.jpg

but not the actual pictures. You have to click on the links to see the pictures. I uploaded with the "Insert Image" icon, and get the same problem in Safari and Chrome.

Thanks
Al

Thanks, but that does not work either. I still get only a picture when I click on the link or clip. I tried again both Safari and Chrome.

Can't the pictures be loaded into the post, or do you always have to click on the attachment?

Yes, I get the same. You still have to click on the pictures. I have seen direct photos on recent threads, so there must be a trick.

It works if you separate them (one picture...speaker shot per file).
You have two shots per file...the reason why the file is too large.

Ok, I reply now to the post you edited after I posted my reply.

The file is not too large at 1 or 1.1 MB, or is it? Again, the problem is that I need to post composite images like, as I said above, in post #4 on my system thread.

(Bob, please reply by writing a new post, not editing an above one, otherwise it becomes a confusing read.)

How did you get that? Also, I still need to be able to make a composite image visible. In above example you separated the images on one slide:

https://www.whatsbestforum.com/attachments/sound_anchors_speaker_stands-jpg.48185/

In your download files, when viewing them, you have a feature setting where you can resize your pictures; I just separate them from that setting, only one picture per file, and you click Save.
You do that from the left picture and then the right one, saving them both and voilà.

I just checked post #4 from the link you provided.
Yes you do have two pics per file and it did work.
My guess is the resolution of the files (the size); perhaps those other files were just smaller enough to fit?

I did try to cut one file (with two shots) right @ the edge of the speakers, but it was still too large; that's when I separated the two pictures.
