I don’t care if Apple stores are open.
I don’t believe it’s over in China, they
are not immune to the virus now.
Wait and see. They have it under control in one region, that’s all.

I saw a report today on Israel and the Palestinian West Bank and it is all being closed down and the comment was they were using some of the most severe restrictions currently outside of China.

WHO apparently withdrew its advice that dogs cannot catch the virus from humans. Apparently the question remains open:

  • What precautionary measures should be taken by owners when companion or other animals have close contact with humans sick or suspected with COVID-19?
There have not been any reports of companion or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19 and currently there is no evidence that they play a significant epidemiological role in this human disease. However, because animals and people can sometimes share diseases (known as zoonotic diseases), it is still recommended that people who are sick with COVID-19 limit contact with companion and other animals until more information is known about the virus.

When handling and caring for animals, basic hygiene measures should always be implemented. This includes hand washing before and after being around or handling animals, their food, or supplies, as well as avoiding kissing, licking or sharing food.

When possible, people who are sick or under medical attention for COVID-19 should avoid close contact with their pets and have another member of their household care for their animals. If they must look after their pet, they should maintain good hygiene practices and wear a face mask if possible.

Just for your information, that dog at the centre of the storm has turned out negative on serology, i.e. it did not produce detectable antibodies to the virus. Interpretations vary on the significance of this finding.

What the hell happened in Italy and Iran from about Feb 10 onwards. They came from nowhere to blast past Korea and Japan and Hong Kong from Feb 21 onwards. Given 10 day incubation..something happened around Feb 12 in those countries. Was there some mass event? The disease profile is very different there.

I will continue skimming the LARGE amount of pages here since the following article was posted in case it was already linked to. This should provide some answers and possibly some weight behind the message.

That's the only way ... draconian measures for a very nasty virus.
It's not waiting till Monday to shut down more airports and theaters etc., that is going to help, it's right now.
Extreme circumstances require extreme measures without a single minute to waste.
That's the big problem; everybody is waiting till it hits them when it already did without their knowing.

To add, copied and pasted straight off the CDC sight, in the USA,

Conclusion
CDC estimates that influenza was associated with more than 35.5 million illnesses, more than 16.5 million medical visits, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season. This burden was similar to estimated burden during the 2012–2013 influenza season1.

Come on guys relax and be smart. Look at the numbers, and yes I am aware its not over but find some levity, this is not Stephens Kings novel The Stand playing out here.

Looking for new numbers and stories all day long 24 hours a day is going to drive you insane and its not serving any purpose except to amplify unnecessary fear.

Neither is being blasé about it and showing photos of thousands enjoying motor sports a few days before it is shut down. I'm sure more than a few of the people in the photo may be wondering if attending a mass gathering is showing common sense or not when the extent of infection is not yet known.

I do agree it can drive you insane though!

How about this flash

Every Apple store in the world except China is closed until end of March

Won't help. The apple store here in HK is deserted. First time I've ever seen it 100% empty apart from the staff milling around not knowing what to do....

Spain and Greece don't have those figures. Germany has bigger numbers and they are not big in tourism. Mediterrainian tourism is not big in winter either.
During this period the contracts and bookings are finalized for the upcoming season.

What I've said previously about Apple: only Apple and the rest of the world will see if that was a wise move to reopen Apple stores (42) in Greater China, from Tim Cook.
He might fry on that one, cooked for good ...

Bill Gates called this pretty early
