Great interview. I really like the comparison of running a business in NYC and being in the middle of a pinball table. :D

Rarely if ever actually watch these interviews. Or look at the audio press sites. This was an informative and interesting way to pass a half hour. Tackled a lot of developments such as sending his first pair of M9 to Texas.

Wishing Bob a safe return on his new table(s) and JF success with these interviews.

Slowly settling in to our new location in Brooklyn. Still waiting on wall art, which has been delayed, but most of the NINE different listening set ups are coming into focus. We should be ready for visitors sometime in September. A peek/preview-

Very little. The
Hope that additional work includes room treatment.
There are 10 acoustic panels with dowloaded wall art on each them for all of the white walls in the upstairs.rooms.

Although right now I have no desire for ANYroom treatments in ANY of the rooms.

I only use room treatment if a room requires specific treatment. Only after I listen to a room do I determine what it needs, if anything.

I have been amazed at the sound in each room as the systems have come to life.

I just gave 6 RPG 8' x 2' panels away as none of the rooms needed them.

The room that I was in for 20 years prior had MUCH treatment. Each room in the new place right now is so much more sonically satisying AND ALIVE sounding than my previous room with zero treatment. Other than furniture and rugs in each of the rooms.

The stone/brick walls in the basement, with rugs on Italian marble floors and huge exposed heavy ceing beams don"t need anything. They sound amazing as they are. It was a very pleasant surprise.

Things will develop over time, I've only been here a month. But for now I'm close to being ready for visitors and listening sessions.

True. But I would not bother auditioning equipment in the inevitably highly reflective rooms in the photos.

I envy you. I have to listen to a room before I can tell whether I like the sound or not.

The constructions of the walls, heavy wooden louvered shutters on the windows. bank vault wall construction and a lot of rugs/pads seem to have worked in this case. But that is my opinion and a few other people that have already visited and listened so it would not work for you unfortunately but for me I am quite pleased at my starting point.

I have never encountered a room that couldn’t be improved with expertly done room treatment. I have also never encountered a stone walled listening room where the reflection-caused distortions weren’t obvious. On the other hand I’ve encountered lots of people who liked the reflection related distortions in their rooms. If you and others like the sound of the rooms in the photos that’s fine. However I would not audition equipment in them.

Yes, I guess I am one of those people that you have encountered that likes reflections. It has a lot to do with living in a room for 20 years that had very limited reflections.

I so appreciate the harmonics that I am hearing off of all of the instruments that were missing in my previously over dampened room. At the same time I don't hear the distortions that you refer to. The distortions might be there for you of course, but not for me.

After listening to my rooms for the last few weeks, I'm VERY content with the sound they are producing.. The rooms would not work for you. Your point has been well stated and understood. Have a great weekend!!!

Harmonics have nothing to do with damping per se or with reflections. In a well treated room there is nothing missing. In fact you hear more of what is on the medium with fewer reflections interfering. I can see however that coming from your over damped room one with little acoustical treatment might sound better.

A few points. In each of the new upstair rooms there is not one parallel continual solid wall surface. There are MANY nooks and crannies that act as natural diffusion. Between the rug absorption and the natural diffusion, and in each room there are several door openings to joining spaces. It simply works, again for me.

Although there are special diffusion panels that I will try in the upstairs rooms once they arrive. I like diffusion, not so much absorption unless it is required. Absorption is not required right now from what I am hearing.

In the basement/dungeon rooms it's more of the same. Not one parallel wall that is the same. Many openings, nooks and crannies, then with the full ceiling of heavy rafters, carpets, furniture it again, to me, it sounds amazing. Not just OK, it sounds REALLY good.

In one of the basement rooms where the Bayz Omni directional speakers are located, and which the Bayz are designed to work in very reflective rooms vs abortive rooms, there is just the right amount of natural diffusion that makes them sing quite nicely. I've heard the Bayz in five or six different rooms and I like them in the room that they are in now the best.

The Diesis open baffle horns, which are directional with the horns and the open baffle loves the reflections, also work very nicely. When doing serious demos there will only be one of the speakers set up in the room. The speakers not being used will be removed.

I would appreciate your opinion MUCH more if you had listened to the sound in these specific rooms, with these specific speakers vs. what your past experiences and acoustical expertise have been in other rooms with different speakers.

Let's just leave it that you know all about the sound in my rooms without hearing them. I have listened and experienced the sound in my rooms after working with them for 30 continuous days. It's just my opinion that they sound great. You have your opinion and I have mine. None of it is anything more than that. To each his own.

Thx, it will be fun. It's actually five different rooms, The rooms are large (30' long) and in several of the rooms speakers are set up on one end and then then the other.

More exciting for me is the opening of the other six Rhapsody Listening Rooms that will all be ready in the next month along with Rhapsody in Brooklyn. The timing is all coming together.

It is no use trying to convince people who value their own preconceived ideas more than people who actually experience something. Still, you gave it a shot. Good luck with all your endeavours :) !

Thx. Appreciate it. Like you say I gave it a shot. I enjoy discussing when people have strong opinions but much more meaningful after both people have heard the same thing. It's funny, even then you will have drastically varying opinions.
