I just read on the Hammertone Audio most recent blog that Allnic has started making its own tubes. The blog says they started in order to have high-quality new production versions in their top models of some of the tubes they use that are becoming increasingly rare and expensive. I own an L-8000 DHT preamp and the large DHTs it uses are really tough to find NOS, particularly the 3A/109B. The good news for me and others with that preamp is that they say it’s next on the list. I was told that this tube is used well below maximum spec and that it will probably outlast me, but as for a lot of us with tube gear, insecurity requires spares… The blog also says they intend to produce their own 300B and 5U4G, too, once they’ve taken care of the hard-to-find tubes. Quite unusual that they set out to do this, I think. I know some tube manufacturers have made/make amplifiers, but I’ve not heard of it the other way around (not counting companies that contract out tube manufacture/rebrand under their name). Does anyone know of any other full-line tube equipment manufacturer venturing into making audio tubes itself?
