Very interested to hear where you go with an SPU. I'm in the same boat. I'll be trying a Ortofon SL15 and a DL103 on the arm and eventually a Micro Acoustics 3002 but I really bought it for an SPU but I have no idea which one.

I really like the basic spu classic gm mk ii — conical needle. Ive used two over 8 years. Ive tried more expensive ones and monos but they disappointed.

Some of the vintage ones from the 50-60s are probably really good but thats expert territory and i dont have any insights.

Enjoy with a good sut and valve phonostage. I use ikeda and abbas.

Thanks. So far I've been considering that one and the elliptical version. I'd love to hear from someone that has experience with some of the vintage ones!

Well I guess I lucked out. Just heard back from Alfred and my arm is being shipped tomorrow. Only one month has passed.
Does Alfred send you tracking info? The last message I received from him through eBay was on Sept 27th. He said he would have it shipped out by the end of that week (Sep 30th- Oct 1st) but I have not heard anything from him since that last message.

cheers,
J

Ok, so I heard back from Alfred this afternoon and he scheduled a pickup for the arm on Tuesday. He sent over the DHL shipment info as well. Stoked to be putting this on my ES-1 :)

Did you order direct or through eBay?

Welcome to the What's Best Forums.
I hope you will post your experience here once you bought such an arm ;)

Cheers,
Christoph

So my arm finally arrived today. 2 day transit time from Spain to New York via DHL. Picked up on Tuesday and arrived this afternoon. Amazing!
All in all, it took 5 weeks from ordering directly from eBay to shipment. A tad longer than the 10 day turnaround time originally quoted haha.

The arm looks wonderful! It is beautifully made, especially with the coated brass bearing housing and counterweights. It’s a 9 inch banana with an sme mount collar. It will be going on my Ar ES-1 once I find a good 5 din rca cable.

And any recommendations for said cable would be greatly appreciated! I had my eyes on the Ortofon 6NX-1010 cable but open to others.

Thank You again Alfred for getting this completed and shipped in a timely manner.

cheers,

Justin

Looks great.
Thats a pretty good turnaround time as well.
As far as tonearm cables go I can recommend Zavfino cables. I have been using the Highland phono cable and it has really impressed me.

Installed the arm late last night on the ES-1. The zavfino tonearm cable arrived today so I’ll be plugging it in later on after work.

Right now I have the single brass 77gm counterweight on it for the sumiko songbird mc /Yamamoto HS-3 head shell combo. Eventually I’ll probably go with an spu later on down the line.

cheers,

justin

Better to use the heavier weight closer to the pivot.

So the cartridge and head shell only have a combined weight of 16 gms. The heavy counterweight is a hefty 188 gms which would not make it ideal to achieve a 2 gm vtf.
Hey guys, new here. Great to see you people getting your arms in the end, I am getting worried as I order back earls June and dont get any answers.
Hopefully I am not forgotten, and can soon enough fit the 309 on my Thorens TD-124.

Thanks for all tips and all good reading!
Alfred, in case you see this, please dont forget me

First post. Been lurking and reading this thread since July.

Ordered a J-bend 230 15. august through ebay.
A neighbor friend ordered a banana 309 plus a Garrard 401 for it (exactly...) and we agreed to bundle the shipments. The 401 is ready, but the arms have had several delays.

The most recent deadline Alfred has given us is today.

Here everything is ready for the arm. A Thorens TD 125 Mk. II with an Andyjay control board that does 78 rpm, Konne Design corian SME arm board, an SME/20 mm Sorane style arm base, one threaded an one unthreaded Audio-Technica 13 g headshell, and a Mogami mini starquad based arm cable from Y. Tomé
