The Noob Linearity factor

I wonder if Ked also subscribes to a mainly horns/SETs/vinyl forum, maybe a big part DIY, and all those forum members had started with these topologies and had not moved onto box spkrs, SS, digital, or pricier versions of the same stuff (ie DIY Altec to AG or Cessaro, 124 or 301 to SME), if he'd also be right now be posting his Noob Linearity 2.0 thread to promote his views that they'd been stuck in the same rut they were in when they first got their first horn SETs vinyl rigs, and why they're still making naive Noob errors, and hadn't progressed anywhere more "truthful" or "realistic"?

Regarding this post, what you are saying today is not possible, because newbies now cannot get exposed to the gear you have mentioned except in rare cases. As I said in an earlier post, if any audiophile who starts off in London today, will get exposed mainly to KEF, Naim, Linn, then B&W, Wilson, Focal types. Small probability of Maggies and MLs. These will be the main shops. With audiophile music and recordings. So a newbie entry point is defined by the current state of the industry, and your first step itself starts erecting exit barriers from that strategy.

Do you seriously expect, today, SETs horns vinyl and DIY will be what a newbie will get exposed to?

This thread is about Kedar. He is working it all out long before he actually buys a system. That way, when he does finally commit, as a newby, he will not be a noob and have to ever evolve. This is the prologue to his future system thread.

You definitely are not noob linear Marc. You have learned so much about tweaks and cables from your early days.
Maybe one day you'd like to engage properly me without being pissy all the time.
Hopefully we've all learnt *something* in our respective journeys.

Please explain how SETs horns exposure today can come in an early phase of the audio career except in rare cases. Assume you know nothing, and go visit a shop in London

I'm very much a reasonable figure to take the piss out of re my "epiphanies". But I do feel a diet of nearly 200 classical concerts up here since we moved and hearing any number of great/average/poor rigs involving any number of horns/boxes/SETs/SS/vinyl/digital, has enabled me to listen out for what's most important for playback at home.
You've made your journey and come to conclusions in your way, but our final verdicts are different, I still prefer the greater consistency of a broader range of boxes over the majority of horns I've heard, you're very much invested in horns only now.

You can go to any number of Central London dealers to hear Duos and Trios.

not really, not standard ones. GT is something not on the high street, you have to be searching for a horn to go there

those closed decades ago, there are no stores there. the stores are KJ west one, grahams, audio lounge, who do the speakers I have mentioned.

some other used dealers operating from their homes. audio lounge did duo for a short while, but mostly YG and such

That was a joke question:) It was my favourite street when I lived in London around 2002. I bought my first pair of B&W 600 series speakers there for around 300 pounds. It was a bestbuy :) .

I am not invested in anything except some records. Drivers can easily be sold and at best will go up in price, not down
 
For my part I recognise considerable fiscal merit in Bonzo’s current LOSMV audio stratagem … Let Others Spend Merely Visit whilst expanding upon a Reference Level discography whist also attending World Class music performances, much to recommend it … seriously !

Maybe what Ron liked in PBN was coherence, dynamic range, the fact that drivers were well matched, instead of simply saying it did great because of size of drivers. I haven’t negated the value of size of drivers. The dual FLH I like are two 15 inchers or 18 inchers. But I do not like Cessaro more than them just because it is bigger and taller. In fact the tall size makes the Gammas less coherent. I do think Sasha 2 is a better speaker than Alexia 1 or the XVX or the various Alexandria. Possibly because coherence is the Wilson weak point and the Sasha 2 size is their ideal manageable. I am saying there are other things to such simplistic viewpoints as bigger can only scale better and smaller cannot. Or that 45s are better than 33s, or even that 45s are good. Most are crap

This is why I asked you if you had read something recently to prompt this thread. I immediately thought of Ron's comments about the PBN, the driver surface area, the height of the speakers, etc. He seemed to equate size with power and scale for big orchestra music. The interesting thing to me is that he has the massive four tower system with big amps for girl with guitar music. Then Ron alluded to your recent private and public discussions. Is Ron the catalyst noob subject of your OP?
