What's Spinning Tonight?

Facten got me thinking about Melody Gardot. For some reason, her look reminds me of the episode of Fawlty Towers (The Anniversary) where Polly dresses as Cybil.

Yes, I am a SOS fan boy
...me too. After grad school, I'm looking for whatever is the opposite of academia. So, I take a job fighting fires in SoCal. Rare day off, I'm drinking beer in a joint in Santa Barbara and a woman comes in, off-her-ass high. Sez you gotta hear this. Has a SONY Walkman and shoves the little wire-headphones over my ears. Offers to sell me the Walkman and throw in a bj for 50 bucks. I give her 50 bucks and buy her a beer. She is a wild child. I finish my beer and stand up to leave. She is totally confused that she gets a beer and 50 bucks...for nothing. Nothing but SOS Breakout. Never forget it. So, yeah, I'm a fan too. Thanks for the memory database recall @PHAA_ Music is such a sharp memory trigger, isn't it...

I, myself, can almost see the look on her face.

30 odd years ago, I visited Venezuela to give a series of lectures in Caracas at one of their top universities. This was long before the current crises and in a happier time for the country. I picked up this wonderful album, full of catchy folk tunes. Marvelous music. It has a song called “Easter Morning”. Since then, every year on Easter morning, I play this album. Happy Easter, everyone!

This is the one played by Borodin quartet. The hORNs Universum is playing with 5 hours on a new Hana ML, a GM70 which while an excellent amp underpowers it slightly, and the speaker is not in its usual place as the Lowther/Beyma cone speaker is in its place.

On a completely different note, here’s what I am listening to now. The magnificent haunting sad desperate sound of Shostakovich‘s Quartet number 8, played by the erstwhile Fitzwilliam Quartet.

Rainy day here in SoCal. Perfect day to just listen to music. I received my new preamp yesterday, put in place last night. End game for me.

Jimi sez:
Rainy day, rain all day
Ain't no use in gettin' uptight
Just let it groove its own way
Let it drain your worries away yeah
Lay back and groove on a rainy day hey
Lay back and dream on a rainy day
Lay back and groove on a rainy day
Lay back
Oh yeah...

Mac Miller – K.I.D.S. (Kickin Incredibly Dope Schiit) - one of the most fun listens I own. Play " The Spins" and you can't help but smile and move that body.
