I vote for Pass also, and the X260.8s are really good.
If you can go to $18K I would try and pick up a pair of XA160.8s, which would be a really significant upgrade for you. Might be your last stop for amps.
I think you can find them for $15K to $17K a pair.
I've had them a couple years and...
Just to be clear, they neither recommend for it, or against it.
They just give you what you want, and what works for your system.
They are totally agnostic. But yeah, one set of binding posts is certainly standard and works.
Here's the excerpt from Robert Harley's review, he used the CH Precisions apparently. My point was that a conscious decision was made to run the Orions bi-amped.
"We decided to passively bi-amplify the Orion with the CH Precision M10 amplifiers. The M10’s remarkable configuration flexibility...
To bi-amp or not is a religious argument, with acolytes, true believers and zealots lined up on both sides. No right or wrong answer is possible.
Both sides serve the same god, perfection in musical reproduction, and as in any religion each has their own view of who and what that god is, and...
The natural place in the existing speaker line for a 'smaller Orion' to fit is the spot currently occupied by the Cygnus. Using the Orion midrange and tweeter, and cabinet approach at a lower price point would occupy the high value spot currently there.
It seems like he would not mention it if...
“Like the Orion but smaller". Sounds like a replacement for the Cygnus using the Orion cabinet approach, midrange and tweeter.
I wonder if it will have one woofer or two woofers?
Just to offer another perspective, I have the Focal Maestro Utopia Evo model as Jay had for awhile. These followed the Focal Scala Utopia Evo, which followed the Sopra 2. I think they sound phenomenal, and I run them biamped.
Many find the Focal beryllium tweeter to be electrostatic like...
With all respect, the question posed was that given the driving demands of the M7, what else would work besides Pilium? Since it's already known that a) Pilium does fine and b) Alon likes them (enough to use them anyway) the question is what else beyond that. Aside from that, one may align with...
I am somewhat disappointed that the M7 is not bi-amped like the M9, as it will take an amplifier with a ton of power to drive these speakers. The M6 already requires a substantial amp, and even one reviewer under-powered it. One can only imagine what the M7 will need.
What are the options to...
I think this is 100% on target, Peter. If you like the Magico sound the M7 may be one step removed from perfection. But if you don't it may be $350k for two steps further into irrelevancy. There are lots of less expensive speakers many may view as better, or at least more desirable to them, at...
I totally agree with this.
Biamping has to be done properly, but if so renders superior results. It's not a question of two inferior amps, who would do that anyway?
I am biamping my Focal Scala Utopia Evo with Pass Labs XA160.8 on the mid/highs and X600.8 on the bass to very, very good effect...
I guess that no one has had the opportunity to listen to such a comparison.
I suppose the next best thing is this: Has anyone listened to both the Focal Utopia range compared to the Rockport line and come up with any subjective differences? Are there relative strengths and weaknesses between...
The Cyngus and the Maestro appear to have very similar design approaches: Two 10" woofers, ported; 6" midrange; beryllium tweeters (convex versus concave domes). They are also very similarly priced.
Has anyone listened to these side-by-side in the same room, with the same setup, or having owned...
Given that the woofers on these just eat current, the Blades really need to be set up biamped. If I had them I would put high end Class A on the tops, high output Class A/B on the bottoms and then see how they do.
Stereophile clearly shows the impedance issues.
But they can also do well with...
Has anyone contacted Pass and asked if there is actually a new product line coming anytime in the near future?
Are they still working through the inventory of transistors for the existing lines, prehaps?
Maybe they have not found anything that they can get in sufficient quantity that sounds as...
So, I think this is sort of an apples and oranges comparison. The two amps will sound very different.
Your speakers present a very challenging load in the bass region, with both low impedance and the electrical phase angle. There is little doubt that your XA100.8s are currently running out of...
Sorry, but this is really uninformed BS. I have very similar speakers to the original poster, and it's a matter of getting the right amplifiers on them. Characterizing Pass amps as 'lifeless' without addressing system matching is naive. I'm running Pass Labs XA160.8's on my Focal Scala Utopia...
Hi Tony. No, I have not yet done that yet. As soon as I get a streamer/transport identified and bought for the Yggy I will give it a comparison run through with the DS DAC and Bridge II I am running now.
I will be sure to report my findings. The DS DAC is very good, highly detailed and very...
Gentlemen,
I am seriously considering moving to the Yggy from my PSAudio DS after many years, and I am trying to sort out which streaming transport or server would best serve the purpose. I listen mostly to Tidal HiRes, and Master. I have a Pass XP-22.
My understanding it that the streamer...
Hi guys,
I am starting to look at the Magico line and I'm trying to research their offerings. There are four lines with a few speakers per line, so it's difficult to figure out what all the differences are. There are no comparison tools on their website as far as I can see, but maybe I missed...
