Administrative Recommendation To Remedy Political Discussion and Ad Hominem Attacks

I’m a bit peeved, I didn’t suggest an area for politics, just where things that edge on them could be. You also don’t advertise the secret section, for obvious reasons.

I appreciate the suggestion, but we don’t want two classes of members or secret forums or places for edgy-topic cage matches.

Very back handed, Ron. You make it sound like some kind of divide instead of earned privilege among friends, and like people want to pick fights instead of hear what their peers they care about have to say.

You could have just said, “We will not be doing that, but thank you for the suggestion” instead of making it sound like I want something deplorable - as if you see me running into these topics keys blazing...

You wrote “secret,” I wrote “secret.” You wrote “edge,” I wrote “edge.”

Nothing back-handed; I tracked your language precisely.

Even among long-tenured members of the forum, even among friends, WBF is not the place to discuss politics or edgy topics. It’s as simple as that.

As demonstrated by DDK, basically everything is on the edge, not edgy. EV vehicles are on the edge, same with gas guzzlers. Either way, I’m pretty taken back. I’m just going to unsubscribe from this topic, as ironically it no longer feels civil to me.

Ron is right, it is a divide into two classes. The privileged vs the not so privileged. Hmm, we've seen that movie before. It runs through our society. But this forum should be better than that. After all, it's called What's Best.

Please let Steve or me or a moderator know when you see a baiting post.

I am a libertarian, so I don’t like bans either. But I like politics adulterating this forum even less.

Isn't this a political post? Why do Libertarians think they are above Republicans and democrats and somehow different?

No, it is not. It is unambiguously a statement of incontrovertible fact.

I intimated no such thing as your politically impermissible question solicits.

Stop being a snooty-snogger.

  • Love - important, not political
It is political if you are LGBTQ.
  • Sex - important, not political (unless you're some kind of total wierdo)
It is if you are LGBTQ. Are those people wierdos?
  • Health - important, not political (though many will take it there)
It is if your healthcare is controlled by the profits of large corporations. It is if your Medicare is in jeopardy.
  • Friendships - important, not political (though politics has killed a few)
They are unless the country is divided. This ultimately limits your friendships.
  • Food - important, not political
It is if your food is poisoned because the FDA is not doing their job.
  • Recreational pursuits (audio, fishing, cycling, etc.) - important, not political
It is if your fishing is seriously impacted by Climate Change due to an administration that denies it.
  • Libations - important to some, not political by nature
I suppose. The drinking age is controlled by politicians. The good news is that alcohol use is dropping in the US.
  • careers - very important (can get political because some folks find a way to get politics into everything)
Educational opportunity, affordability and a good economy with jobs once you graduate is all about politics.
