Yikes!!!!! Spain plans to cut workweek to improve work-life balance

Sweden has 4 times as many shootings its neighbours due to its out of control gang problem.
I heard about this over a decade ago.
Too bad, I can't imagine whom one would blame for this.

To put things in perspective - firearm related homicides per 100,000 people in 2020.
Sweden 0.463
USA 4.054
USA has almost 9 times firearm related homicides per 100,000 people.

To put things in perspective, Sweden gangs and gang related extreme violence involving bombs prior to 2000, zero.
In 2025, off the scale.

As no one seems to be reporting this thread, I think I will chime in. I am of the opinion that a government should not be dictating such work rules, especially in a country like the United States that celebrates diversity and has become a panoply of different cultures with different values. Encourage self reliance and allow people to work as much or as little as they want and to whatever degree is in their best self interest, and that of their employer. Expectations should be discussed and agreed-upon and the government should stay out of it.

to be fair, if not for my Wadax enjoyment and concern i would never have started this thread. just say'n.

so it is relevant.
Hi Mike.
Spain plan to reduce workweek isn't to improve work-life balance.
Life expected is growing up each year and natalllity is one of the lower in the world.

So, our system of pensions and social security is in risk....especially in primary sector.
This type of measures without any natallity incentive is useless.
More people could access to a job but with poorer conditions.

Regarding Wadax, i don't see any trouble reducing 2,5 hours every week.
Today, real trouble is finding talent in such extremely high technical knowledge demand brand to work in it.
I would be more afraid about AI impact. I'm sure it will shake all the industry.... every sector.
AI means poverty...

A non political answer , in the USA Union is 35 hour work week . Beyond is overtime. Non union is 40 hours same after 40 OT
In NYC most work way more then other states .I now live in a southern state , they work way less then up north .
You can say lazy people but they live life more non work life.
who is right ? How much should we have to work to live what we feel is well ? Big question with a complex answer .
All of my life is work and even hobbies had to fit in to work.
I'm retired but still work how am I doing lol.

Sure, I'm not arguing for a 60 hour week, but 40 hours of work per week really isn't that much. You can have a super healthy work/life balance with that. Especially when your job is fun and not boring.
Yea - and if you want to work more than 60 hours a week, you can always be a Mobile Crane Pilot … MOOHAHAHA :D !!!

....
In Scandinavian countries they have a short work week and they score the highest on the life wellness chart.

The idea is to work smart not hard , but after my recent visit to South Dakota it became clear to me why they make long hours lol.

In spain they have also long lunch breaks , irs the only country where we had wine / good food during lunch incl the workshop workers.

Ps well see where the USD will be after 2025 , if they dont succeed to get control of spending ( same in EU)
Haven’t seen short work weeks in Sweden since God showed up at my entrance.. LOL…!!

I would move to sweden if the capital gains tax was low :)
afaik its 33 % or something like that
It sure is, but health care is almost free, no fee to talk of. If you get sick, drugs is almost free too, at least you don’t pay much, we have a very comfortable social system should you be out of work. We all pay our share for that convenience…

With that all said… We still have our Swedish Fika, which makes up for almost EVERYTHING… LOL.. :D ! Your very welcome!
