Anyone running their Wilsons with SS?

They always have sounded a bit harsh to my ears with SS. How do you deal with it?

Prior to my going all tubes I ran my big Wilsons with Krell 750Mcx and never found the sound harsh. Pick your flavor as Ron Party always says

BTW some of the best sound I've heard on the large Wilson speakers is with Spectral and far from harsh

I have recently listened to the MAXX3 sounding great with DartZeel amplifiers. The cj premier 350 we were talking about in another thread also managed it.

Same here .. I have heard Wilson with a number of SS from High End to midfi (Sony Receiver) ... same results: good (the receiver) to superlative sound ... then if the gear is bad ... well they will sound as what feeds them ...

I am running my X1/Grand Slamms with Gryphon Class A amplification. I have heard these with ARC Tubes and heard the Alexandria with Krell Evo Ones. I prefer the sound i have to both, and would not trade it for tubes that i have heard to date despite being extraordinarily tempted by the Lamm 2.2 monos at one time. I might be tempted by CJ ART, but with the Gryphon Colosseum, i have not even bothered to inquire.

As Steve says, its a personal decision at this level of quality. It also matters what else is part of the system.

You do have tubes in the path to ameliorate any potential harshness.

I run Zanden to CJ GAT into Gryphon Colosseum which, yes, is full Class A (it does not enter into A/B at any point.)
