My friend thinking its a scam may be a little overblown. However, none of us in our group believe that cables and power cords should be used as fixes. If that is what it comes down to, something else is up. Maybe the room for starters. I personally have found that many expensive cables may provide something and take something else away. In many cases, inexpensive cables can be pretty neutral. Even the do it yourself stuff.

Don't understand this line of thinking. Cables should compliment your components/and help to get the best out of them just like seasoning should compliment and bring out the best flavors in food.

My experience is that cables -- no, even a single cable -- can make or break a system for the listener, just as a single tube can, for example, can take a system from unsettling or worse to enchanting, or vice-versa. Seasoning? Even though we think of the main components as primary, system interdependence means everything counts. If just one cable makes the difference for the listener, I find it hard to call it secondary. All the more, considering that cables often cost the same or more than the component(s) they drive or connect.
assessor, the objection to andromedaaudio's behavior, if that's what you are referring to, is not about his enthusiasm per se, but that in it he does not accept the underlying premise of the thread and, like many cable deniers, seeks to disrupt discussions. In internet terms, that’s called trolling. I wish the head moderator of the site would set up a thread for those of his view to play in, and firmly tell them to stay there, as one forum site did.
Its not a belief its actually what i hear.
If you argue my speakers and system are not good enough to hear the difference or my ears are not okay that would be a fair argument of your side
I watched the vid and the gentleman other then J is asking the same question .
After years of gear and cable changes I have realized that power, power cables, and interconnect cables are the foundation for a stereo system. Build a solid foundation and gear will work at its best. If something sounds bad then it is the gear’s problem.
If somebody wants to spend money on cost no object cables, by all means go for it but its the room, gear, source, SPEAKERS that IMO, is a lot more important and investing there is probably a better option.

My dealer used to say expensive cables make a hell of a difference .
Only problem is when i bought one , 5 months later a new one came out and he said thats substantially better then the one you have now

Surely, if we do not have the money! The split of budget in a system should be balanced - however as I frequently can get very good deals in used cables, apparently my system becomes unbalanced.
However I would be very thankful if any of our members could point me a full set of cables sounding exactly like a Transparent Audio Opus gen 6 set costing one tenth of the price.

You should get a better dealer. If a new cable version shows only 5 months after I buy a cable from my usual local dealers I get a full credit towards the new cable.

That was in the period 2003 -2007 when i did my experimentation after that i never bought an expensive cable again .
I have listened to very expensive set ups since then , i never feel tempted

Cars? You get upset when the new model year is better vs the previous one? But you had to have bought that car in the last year, right? Lol...
Speakers? How many times have Magico updated their line? Seems like at at least every other month. Same with Wilson, YG, etc, etc. etc... the new models are better than previous models.
DACs? It's too bad we aren't using the same DACs we were when CDs 1st came out I guess.
I've personally witnessed cables makes massive differences in many systems. Because today's speakers and electronics are so much better than they used to be it makes cables and AC power quality even more important as you can hear the distortions and artifacts much more clearly.
I remember when a certain duo of audio companies challenged people at audio shows to bring their cables and see if it makes a difference in their show system. It really didn't make a difference because the speakers and electronics colored the sound so badly and the system was a massive POS to begin with, so much so you'd be better off going to best buy and picking out a nice bluetooth system. Of course cables don't make a difference when everything else is extremely colored.
These days we have just the opposite with the best speakers and electronics. You can exchange today's best DACs with one another and hear small differences. Because cables vary more than today's top-end electronics and sometimes even speakers, they can have outsized effects.
