Burmester 911 mk3

Yes, I would have to send them back to the factory to convert them to stereo amps. From what I understand, internally bridged factory monos are the way to go for ultimate performance. I do not like the idea of extra cabling with the Y-adapters. The more connections, the worse the sound. Why spend that kind of money and not get them configured as monos from the start. Of course, if you think you might want to biamp (with multiple preamp outputs) then by all means get the stereo amps and use multiple interconnects. I would prefer multiple preamp outputs and interconnects to using Y-adapters. My personal preference.

Joe,
Have you got your monos yet? If so, I'm sure we all here would love to get some initial impressions from you.

Hi,

No, not yet. I expect to see them in under 2 weeks. I'm still waiting for an update on shipping but I think they are on their way over here.

Cables for 911 mk3

Reading about the 911 mk3 I found a reference about a Burmester's own proprietary silver wire being used inside the amplifier. This comment triggers a question - what brands and type of connecting and speaker cables do Burmester owners and sellers recommend?

That is easy. It depends on what system you have, and what biases you have. :)

I have asked this very question on another forum which generated some good replies. Burmester obviously uses their own cabling at shows. The 3rd party brands that came up most were Nordost/Kimber/Transparent/Audience/Wireworld. I personally have compared Nordost Frey vs Burmester silver (interconnects) and preferred the Burmester. I currently use Frey speaker cables but will look to switch to Burmester silver when I come across a good deal. I know Rocco has tried a truly impressive array of cables and I believe he thinks very highly of Burmester topped only by the big buck Nordost Valhalla/Odin, hopefully he will chime in.

I have borrowed Odin speaker cables to try with my 911 MK3 to great results. And I have also gotten great results with Cullen Cables. A vast and huge difference in price between the 2 cables, but a very small (and i mean small) difference in sound. The Odin sounded slightly more pure.

Hi.

Burmester components are very sensitive to the cables used. If you would like to maintain the extreme pure home-sounds you have not so much choices. I tested a lof of cable's manufacture and I found very good at that price the Burmester Silver or if your goal is "no compromise" and "money no object" I highly reccomend the Nordost Top (Valhalla or Odin). Personal reference choice.

I was of this opinion ... no longer ... I had an ear-opening experience. Call it an epiphany :)

And the current opinion is? Please do not let us waiting for long. ;)

Don't you have an Aida to evaluate:mad: ??? :p

I am likely to go back to the Burmester fold ... Entirely Burmester electronics that is ... and even Burmester cables :D ... Their cables prices are pedestrian i think less than $500 for 20 feet of Copper IC ... While he likely will not say it out loud, I am not certain Dieter is a cable believer ...

I do not know but in the Innovations section of their website they refer :

Deciding factor for these honours has always been the fact that Burmester sets standards for the whole industry rather than copying others.

To name just a few examples: (just one between many others):
High purity silver interconnecting cables with electronic and magnetic shield

Unhappily I have found more than once that the german-english translations can be misleading.

Yes, Frantz, I am taking Burmester seriously. Specially because no one is telling me it is scientifically better than all others ...

hi,

staying on topic, while i currently have an all burmester system down to cables, i was wondering whether i could do with a speaker upgrade. I will be looking at my 2nd 911mk3 soon driving the b30s in vertically biamped mode. talking of speaker upgrade, i happened to listen to the Revel ultima salon 2 (driven by ML monos) and they struck me as 'amazingly clean'. I wonder if anyone on this forum has had any experience of the Revels being driven by burmester electronics, esp the 911 mk3?

wud be delighted to get some feedback

cheers

sujay

Did any one compare the sound of the 011 + 911 mk3 with the ASR Emitter Exclusive II? The top version of this amplifier has two separate power supplies for the power amplifier and a battery power supply for the preamplifier. Someone in a german magazine once called it the "poor man's Burmester"

Poor man's??? They cost about the same for the 2012 ASR model right?

Just took delivery of the 808 and 911 monos. Will post some initial impressions when I set the system up temporarily. The final system may take up to a month to complete.
