Burmester 911 mk3

Hi Joe,

i completely agree with you that the monos are more than twice as good as the stereo. in fact, mine are just about reaching the 100 hours mark and words cant describe the delicacy with which the monos deliver the music! did you see a marked change around the 100 hours mark yourself?

cheers

sujay

Mine have gone past 500 hours and they are really good now and getting better. The cerabases which I added to my speakers brought more focus and clarity to the sonic landscape. Bass and treble energy are also enhanced.

alas, i've got a long wait ahead.......the beauty however is that i can hear subtle improvements every time i play familiar CDs after a long gap.

cheers

The 'after 1000-hour jump in performance' (Gary was referring to earlier) of the 911s might have happened to my 911s sooner. I'd clocked about 700 hours on them and they are just superb now. I've never heard better bass performance in my system. Vocals are so lifelike that I just find them hard to believe possible in my system. Highs are extended and sound 'so right'. Listening at low volume is a real joy now. And the great thing is the 808 and 911s are getting better and better by the day.

In all due respect, I am of the belief that more is not better. But, I wish our mono brothers the very best. I love my single stereo 911 MK3, and look forward with bated breath to the MK4.

Enjoy your single 911 then while I enjoy my mono 911s.;)

There won't be a MK4; it will be straight to MK5 and I'll be the first to ship my 911s to Burmester for the upgrade when that happens if they are upgradable.

Burmeste r 911 MK.3

In our 2009 review of the 911, we proclaim it
“the best amplifier made.” We stick by that remark.
Nothing TONEAudio publisher Jeff Dorgay
has heard before or since has the 911’s ability to
effortlessly drive any speaker in addition to boasting
zero maintenance, near-perfect tonal balance,
and boundless dynamics. Along with prodigious
power and control over the audio spectrum, the
911’s gorgeous jewel-like casework makes it an
object of art on more than one level. The only
thing better than a 911? A pair of them.

Whatever, 4 or 5 we (I), don't care, as long as there is a new 911 with German engineering.

They are likely to be upgradeable ... If they follow form ...

I consider the 911 Mk3 a perfect and timeless amp. So if Burmester will decide to upgrade it, I think will be very hard to improve better his sound quality!

Why does Burmester provide so little technical data concerning their gear? Does anyone know whether any of the Burmester amps have been tested with at least the generally accepted tests that we see in Stereophile or HiFi Critic?

A good question and one for which I have no answer. They have however been tested and I believe Stereophile tested the 911 and 001 preamp. They also have been tested by various European magazines... Finding the specs for most Burmester products is an adventure ... :(
It doesn't make much sense to me...

And I am a Burmester fan :)

I don't think this is true. I also can't find any such testing done in any euro magazine. I am not asking this question to be a PITA. There is a local dealer telling me that I need to audition the Burmester gear and I raised this concern with him as well and I didn't get any re-assuring response from him. I don't think specs are everything, but they can be very useful in narrowing things down in relation to a particular pair of loudspeakers.

P.S. Stereophile web site is acting funny at my location but they did review (don't remember if they tested) the 911 in December 2003 Stereophile, Vol.26 No.12 ...

I don't understand French, but those graphs look more like CAD drawings to me. :D
