Burmester 911 mk3

I'm enjoying great music with my 808 and 911s now. If I do upgrade, it'll be the FMA 268 + 1811 but this won't be anytime soon.

Listened in well know and controlled situations a lot of times mostly all of the models amps/preamps Fm Acoustics including their top speakers. The timbre is too old and colored at my ears. Definitevely is not my cup of tea. Burmester, especially, the combo on your hands (911's monos + 808 Mk5) is far better in all regards, especially in the timbre with no any colorations, shocking neutrality (Burmester is absolute best in such parameter) and awesome musicality. Pure nature of sounds. Think to add in your system a Burmester digital player (e.g. 069's with reference power supply unit) and you'll reach straight the heaven easily ;).

All the best from Johor ;)

Welcome to Johor, Rocco! I'm seriously looking at the 069 (with psu) now.

Superb choice ;)

Thank you.

All the best.

Earlier, I had asked Gary Koh which was better, vertically biamping or monoblocking the 911s. I finally tried both and Gary was right...the monoblock configuration is much better to me. Much more dynamic and better coherence overall. Perhaps, if the speakers are easier to drive, it may be a different story.

Exactly. It is all about speaker integration.

hi,
i havent tried running mine as monos - maybe i should. honestly, however, i am quite loving the vertically biamped setup (passive though).

by the way, i must say, my amps are reaching 500 hours and the sound has 'suddenly' become richer with much more pronounced decay and detail. i actually cannot believe my ears! the transformation is real

cheers

Try going mono and I can assure that you won't regret it. I concur with your impression of the amps after 500 hours. Mine are close to 850 hours now and they are still improving. I hope Gary is right in saying that there will be another jump in performance after about 1,000 hours.
As for vertical biamping, I found the bass energy to be slightly stronger. That's about the only improvement I got but overall, I prefer the mono setup.

It sure is fun, Bob.;)

Thanks, Thf99, I will try the mono set up over the dec holidays and report back. I am also looking at a speaker upgrade. Any suggestions that will not break my back and my pockets at the same time;)

Sujay,
I like the big Genesis speakers. Once you listen to the ribbons, it's difficult to turn back. The G2.2Jr may be a little over your budget but it may be worth your while to check them out. They could be your last speaker purchase. It retails for around US$49,000.

Hi
I am very, very familiar with Burmester Genesis combo.. What about the wonderful , unheralded, underrated, not appreciated and really ignored by too many audiophiles Gen 5.3.. ??
That would be one full range and wide dynamic combo in a small package ..

Other speaker to consider Rockport Avira

Since you are in South Africa maybe you should give Vivid Audio a listen ... People on this forum love them .. I haven't heard them but they are in your neighborhood .. so .. They look very strange to me :)
What's wrong with the B30?

I have had outstanding results with Venture speakers.

Unfortunately, that was the launch price 2010. We sold at practically cost to get the market moving. It's $64k until end-2012, and the price will go up 2013. While I love my job, I won't have it for long if I keep selling speakers at cost.
