Burmester 911 mk3

Well, with a sad heart, I sold my 911 MK3. I will be embracing new technology in the form of Theta's new Prometheus monoblocks with Ucore technology. I sold my GNSC Wadia S7i and am the first to have the Oppo 105 tube modded by Modwright as we speak . I have sold off most of my expensive gear, except for my Concert Fidelity pre. Will I regret it? Probably, but this hobby for me is to find new and exciting gear. I will keep my Venture speakers as a solid foundation though. I have spent many countless hours enjoying my 911 MK3 and I almost bought a pair of enormous all class A Vitus monos, but I want to hear what the future will bring.

Jim, are you also exploring new music material (latest releases from the artists you love, and as well new artists)? :b

And after 85 pages of blessing, the fall of the king...

Mine doesn't want to be a polemic post. According to my listening experience, Burmester gear is in the gotha of the best solid state amplification. I'd like to listen to Dartzeel at this point, though :)
My only experience with Dart was with the integrated amp + Kudos speakers: I didn't like it, meaning that it didn't "surprise" me like a $20k gear might be supposed to. But it could also have been a speaker issue. I wish to re-listen to the integrated, possibly with other speakers (I'd be curious about a match with Wilson Sasha).

I've never listened to the Dart separates, instead: definitely I wouldn't like to fall in love for the 458s... :) Love for $140k amps is pain :D

docvale,

If you heard that combo at the NY audio show this year, please do give the darTZeel gear another try, either the integrated or the separates.
They were set up with those less than stellar speakers, and with incompatible cabling (Nordost). The same NY dealer works with much better and more well known speaker brands, like Verity.

Yes, that was my unique Dart experience.
According to your knowledge, does Singer displays in in his showroom? Honestly mine is more a curiosity for the sake of passion: I cannot afford that amp anyway, so I'd feel embarrassed to schedule an ad hoc listening session with no intention of purchase.

I am like the guy who came to the end of the internet. I have heard everything! And, there is no best amp, preamp or speakers. I treat my gear like I did girls in college, experiment, experiment, and experiment. ;)

Congratulations Jim,

Don't look back. My 911 monos are sold as well. My Dartzeel is amazing in my system, blows away the Burmester gear. I am happy, very happy.

Congrats...so whats next? Pass XS? Dart Monos? ;)

I too have moved on from the 911. I tried out the Dart 108 in my system and I find it more musically satisfying. It bests the 911 in resolution, inner detail and microdynamics. It has a certain delicacy about it and sounds very holographic, refined, and natural. Not an amp for all speakers tho...

Very well said. I love my Dart 108 on my TADs.

I just added a pair of Townshend supertweeters to my Extremas and I must say that these supertweeters just opened up the treble and the extra air they add to the system is just superb. Voices are more natural and real. The midrange seems to have more weight (I'm not sure why). Extremas owners should try these supertweeters.

Now I wonder how they would fit onto a pair of Maxx 3's. They would be similar the X1's and Akexandria's then.

Dart preamp first. Then maybe that's it.

Congrats Joe. Patience has its own rewards. Before going down ss route, try to have a listen to the momentum amps or if possible the Gryphons.

Cheers

Joe will probably buy all of them.

Thanks Shane. I am eager to read your results of the new momentum trial and how it compares to the Pass. The stereo D'Ag amp seems very interesting. I think hearing a Gryphon might be difficult.

+1 at least.

Since settling down with my Dart 108, I am not restless anymore. It's a wonderful feeling. The Dart 108 sounds best within 5 minutes of being on. It's just wonderful.
