Burmester 911 mk3

I don't think this is true. I also can't find any such testing done in any euro magazine. I am not asking this question to be a PITA. There is a local dealer telling me that I need to audition the Burmester gear and I raised this concern with him as well and I didn't get any re-assuring response from him. I don't think specs are everything, but they can be very useful in narrowing things down in relation to a particular pair of loudspeakers.

If you go to the German eBay and do a search around Burmester you will usually find many past magazines with reviews of Burmester equipment. But some people say that German is not easier than French to understand! :)

Hi guys,

If anyone is interested in selling their Burmester 911 mk3, please let me know as I'm trying to get one.

Cheers!

In this case I would recommend buying from Europe - check audio-markt.de (where 911's pop up occasionally, none currently). Retail in EU/Germany is 16K EUR, a good deal for a mint unit would be exactly 60% of that (this is what I personally paid for a 3 month old unit). Not sure you would pay import tax in Oz? Burmester in the US is significantly more expensive than over here and secondhand units there are nearing the new price in EU (as you can see from the Agon listing). Good luck, perhaps put up a "wanted" ad on Audio-markt, this is how I was able to locate a 948 conditioner within a few days with multiple sellers.

I have one for sale, in excellent, mint condition. It is a special edition unit.

Special edition = black color?

The original was 911 was black and silver IIRC, the first one I heard anyway ... The silver version is what I have seen in the US though.. There seem to have a version that is black and gold and even heard about a back and copper ..never seen those personally...

Has nothing to do with original 911. It was a special custom black 911 MK3 and 069 set. If one wants, even Burmester in all gold can be purchased. I find black components more elegant, IMHO. That said, I will keep my 911 MK3. I searched, and there is nothing that can touch it under $65K.

What was it at $65K that compared well or surpassed it?

I'm enjoying great music with my 808 and 911s now. If I do upgrade, it'll be the FMA 268 + 1811 but this won't be anytime soon.

Being a Burmester fan ...

I would not automatically assume that it would be an upgrade. The 808 takes a back seat to no preamp ... It is true the 911 even in mono has some limitation in term of ultimate power it can deliver .. maybe the 1811 can drive 1 ohm speakers ( I am not so sure about that personally) but to repeat myself ... I don't see why FMA is automatically assumed to be the end-of-it-all ... Color me skeptical ..

Fully agree Frantz. Maybe, I should not call it an upgrade. Just a second system with the FMAs.
