Has anyone considered the possibility that PB is suffering from a major life event (health issues, loss of a family member, etc.) and that this is the cause of his recent behavior?

In general, I have little use for apologies, especially when not sincere and not quickly forthcoming.

Like financial debts, the longer apologies are outstanding, the less valuable they become.

In my experience, apologies are most often required by women and politicians.

The most important requirement for being a member should be to be a mensch.

Steve: I enjoyed reading your post.

I completely agree with thedudeabides. Infact the sudden ups and downs in the matter of minutes to me suggests a neurologic examination is in order. After I rejected his invitation to join his avshowroomsforum as a founding member I bid him an adieu and here is what he sent me

"I leave with pride. That I support high end audio. What you do is support uneducated consumers"

I suggested to him that his meds need adjusting but here he is the next day on a forum that he never liked to begin with apologizing to the members of this forum which he said incessantly was the best and to all the members with whom he was friends. Now we are a bunch of wankers

If you're reading PeterB I agree with the above post because clearly your mind swings are concerning

I've been through several major life events and that didn't make me an ASS.

...And Davey has to realize that too. ...And come back. :b

As for Peter, he needs some solid friends, some smart advice, serious self-exploration, vindication, jurisdiction, forgiveness, compassion...all important human values.
It's never too late...he has some great qualities...and his love for the music will be his final salvation...

. . . ."I leave with pride. That I support high end audio. What you do is support uneducated consumers". . . .

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I have always been very impressed with the knowledge acquired by and imparted to the members here.

This forum is a fountain of knowledge and well educated members.

So how does the Harman/Mark Levinson gear sound ?
Harman is a corporate entity and has no product of its own. Mark Levinson products have not been part of any study for me to share.

Loudspeakers from some of the Harman brands such as JBL, Revel, and Infinity have been part of listening tests which by definition determines their sound. I have participated in those listening tests and prefered the JBL in the two specific instances over B&W, and Martin Logan. My outcome matched that of countless others who have taken the same test including audio reviewers and enthusiasts alike.

Measures better than most gear and therefore is the best sounding gear ?
What gear? We have not had any discussion about gear. We were discussing loudspeakers. This is what you said made you upset. And that discussion was 100% based and rooted on listening tests, not measurements. Hence my comment to you. The research attempted to then correlate what objective measurements, best predict the listening test results. A sophisticated 72 point weighted measurement system was developed using an anechoic chamber which seemed to provide very high predictive ability for hundreds of people who have taken these listening tests. That data says a loudspeaker that has a smooth frequency response without any sudden dips or resonance is preferred in listening tests. Naturally newer loudspeakers from Harman divisions follow this learning. So if that is what you mean by "better" yes, they follow that and they do sound better as shown by backward correlation with the listening tests.

Note that in all cases, listening tests still rule. No product can be released without beating its competition in blind listening tests. And that the designers of loudspeakers perform the same sighted, subjective listening tests other designers use and follow.

Actually, yes. His actions seemed like he was suffering a bipolar incident.

That would be a first thought but underlying neurologic lesions need to be excluded as the behavior is so dramatic and off the wall

Nice summary. It says that in the conditions created by Harman and according to Harman defined criteria more people prefer their products. I have no doubts of it. But it does not imply they are the preference of the audiophile community interested in high-end stereo.

Can we know what are "the same sighted, subjective listening tests other designers use and follow"? Do they hire famous speaker designers to have their opinions and voice their speakers?

Peter who? :D

Whilst provocation could be argued, some of the responses and speculation here are unkind, to say the least.

I agree. Can we just move on, please?
