Seems like Peter Q. is one of those hypnotic people that you have to experience and be sold by to really get the products. I have always been left uninpressed with Audio Note products, wich are predominantly other peoples design, bought and marketed as AN, with extra silver everywhere of coarse. And he sure works his magic on some reviewers ! ;)
Ridiculous comment...Who's designs are they? If you are referring to Kondo, you need to do your homework before you spout off on a forum with information some other dumb audiophile told you second-hand. They were partners, and separated the business, enough said....You really need to back up your words with examples that are facts rather than hit and run. PQ may not be everyones cup of tea but he built a great company that is wildly successful. All this during the advent of digital that generally all sounds the same..He tested MATERIALS and invested in MATERIALS testing, spent millions doing it, all while every other company just bought off-the-shelf shit, took zero risks and fancied it up with some over-engineered over-priced circuit design.

The fact alone they never believed in all the latest and greatest trends, (the USB connection, or DSD for example, which all sounds like sh*t), and stayed the course with what they believe in is reason enough to respect that company. They have two of the best designers in the world, in Grove and Darko, have employed the same people for their entire careers and invest more money back into the company than they take for profit...But yeah, it's just all done with magical lies and hypnotism on reviewers.

You may not like the AN sound, and thats fine, you may not like PQs ramblings, but you can't deny hard work to build what he did from the ground-up, and the companies steadfast ambitions towards caring about their employees and music first and technology second. But it's not the latest and greatest digital crap from Wadax and MSB so it must be what you said..I'd love to see what you've contributed to the audiophile community, other than some uninformed, ignorant fly-by comment on a forum bashing an icon in the audio industry.

That's what grumpy old men constantly do here, indeed.

Rationalize much? How charitable of you to come to the defense of that comment though..Mine was a response to the "slanderous" personal attack on PQ and the nobility of what PQ has done. Say what you want about the tech, who cares. What he's contributed to the industry and ultimately our hobby is undeniable.

I don't own any AN equipment btw, not that it matters.

Yes you have obviously been drinking your cool-aid ! Their turntables are shinned up Voyd's too ! Nothing original coming out of that company, and yes i am totally unimpressed with the oversmooth un engaging sound i have heard from their products, they need all that silver just to make it sound listenable !

I don't see where I came to anyones defense? I know nothing about PQ or Audio Note history. Nor the equipment voicing or performance. I just read a very hot emotional post that included bashing on Wadax and MSB. I didn't come to the support of those products either. I'm just stating what I read. Your post could have been presented more tempered where the meaning would have more impact. Intead the anger has overshadowed the value of the content.

I also own no AN ( or for that matter Kondo ) equipment, but have huge respect for both the brand and PQ. Yes their products are expensive, old fashioned, and not to everyone's taste. I also enjoy listening to PQ's talks and find him to be one of the most interesting people in the industry.

For some reason, both PQ and Audio Note attract a lot of criticism from non-adherents that other brands don't. I always try to stick to a policy of not raining on other peoples parades - that is I let other people enjoy what they like even if I don't. There is lot's of gear that has not impressed me, but I would rather talk about the gear that has.

Didn't Audiophile Junkie post a vid with PQ and his AN products at the Dallas audio show. He seemed to like it. He also seemed to enjoy the breakfast conversation even more. The guy seems to be a wealth of knowledge.

I was posting on anothet thread where CAT released a small inline filter for the ethernet cable. There was a reviewer link posted. It sort of irritated me. The reviewers article that is. This guy has a Wadax and some other good digital system and true to a reviewers typical story, hie digital was almost unlistenable until he put this device in. Now its music with it. A long time ago when I started thinking of power, I looked at all utilities. I treated the power that feeds my modem, router and switch as well as the audio gear at the rack. I ran dedicated circuits to it. I prioritized placement of ciruits in the panel. I used LPS on all the equipment. I use a specialty switch. I plug all those LPS into a Torus. I was attacked by all the typical computer geeks telling me bits are bits, it does not matter. Well, I find my digital very pleasing. With the right media as pleasing as the vinyl. Its never the same as the vinyl. Its different in its own way and better in some respects. Maybe people should pay a little more attention to the whole power chain feeding the data backbone when setting up a premium digital system.

What irritated you about it? His promoting of the in line filter? I agree power is a very important part of the chain, I've paid alot of attention to it and used power products I trust and that actually made an audible difference in my system. If my listening room weren't on the opposite end of this home on the upper level from my panel I'd install some nice in-wall cabling and a sub panel dedicated to my audio.

I obviously disagree with the bits are bits crowd since none of that takes into consideration how we all hear and perceive and absorb information differently...No measurements for that.

Pardon me if I was unclear. I have no issue with promoting an ethernet inline filter. I am curious about these devices and started by asking if anyone would explain more about what they are hearing. What attention to detail they have put into the digital backbone. Just responding it sounds great is not much information. I was told, read the linked review by Roy someone.

I was irritated by the linked 3 device comparison of the CAD to 2 other devices. In the review the author was saying his Wadax digital was unlistenable until he inserted a $300 filter.
Maybe its true. Maybe he only has a SOTA switch and no other attention to detail was paid to powering his internet equipment. It is not unusual for audiophile to think throwing money at a switch and expensive cables make for great electrical infrastructure. Maybe the article is really about your digital is never going to sound all that great, even if you spend $300k on it unless you power all of it correctly. Or, all you need is a filter on the ethernet cable and your done!!!!!!! Yea, I don't buy that. Do the rest of the work first. Then try the filter.

@Kingrex I have tried several kinds of filters, active and passive, and found that the streamer's ability to reject noise is a very big factor. Since I'm using an ISP's modem/router without an LPS (but plugged into a balance power unit that is on a separate line than the dedicated line that powers the audio devices) and the copper ethernet threads through who knows what in the walls, I tried a passive filter before the streamer (Network Acoustics Muon Pro).

Together, the streamer and filter provide a very musical presentation (meaning, I am easily engaged with music) that is better than previous filters. The difference without the filter was definitely not "I can't listen to this digital stuff any longer." On the contrary, it was very engaging. This doesn't imply that further measures, such as a switch designed for audio purposes, wouldn't provide even further improvement.

My general advice is the try before you buy. Choose a filter within your budget that has a good return policy and give it 30 days.

It appears for good Digital, it’s way more difficult than Analog ...!

:)
I don't have experience with setting up turntables and the like, but digital does require a lot of experimentation. The other side of that work is the convenience of execution and the nearly endless supply of music (via something like Qobuz). But some folks have decided to have both and that seems like a great solution if time, space and budget allow.

I currently have both digital and vinyl front ends. For the most part I think my vinyl playback sounds, let's say, 10% better than most of my comparable digital recordings (IMO). I've got the itch to try MSB or DCS stacks to take out that last percentage . Problem is I'm not convinced I could get there even after spending 10"s of thousands of dollars to do it. I'm fairly happy with my current DAC/Streamer and was thinking it might make better sense to wait a couple of years to see what may shake out of vendors in this fast changing technology. For those who are or were in a similar situation any advice would be appreciated. View attachment 113795

Vinyl is nowadays from digital source too. So why does it sound "better", is a mystery. Maybe the reason is the "natural" filter that acts on it in the playback. The voltage induced from the cartridge coil will never reach the amplifier as it is, instead it will encounter such a combination of resistance, inductance and capacitance on its way to the amp that a RLC low pass filter acting on its frequency response is produced. It is not digital, so you find it "natural", well pleasing your ears.
