Capital AudioFest 2024

Yes, this guy played those Popori speakers with some horrible bass "record" , at very loud levels, made my ears bleed within 10 seconds, I literally had to run out of the room. Every time I attempted to go in they played something truly awful and devoid of any musical value, just to claim that those speakers could do bass. That they could, however after visiting that room 5 times, I still have no idea how those speakers sound at normal to my ears levels (about 85-90 db). THe forte of any electrostats is their 'magical and pure midrange. There was almost none in that room. This has got to be the WORST DEMO AND INTRODUCTION OF THIS TYPE OF SPEAKERS I HAVE EVER HEARD! I was not alone in my assessment either. The presenters whomever those were must be deaf at certain mid range freq, by my estimation . The presenter here claims they have sold 3 pairs, judging by the audience size in lot of rooms at the show, there was no shortage of semi-deaf audiophiles.
Did any one notice the dsp being used ! Bach sorry if my spelling is off was all in one 30k cost
Dac dsp streamer
did you notice the bass change in seats and rear and at entrance to the room was crazy.
This in part is the dsp and in part the room bass wave.
Back sorry if misspelled is live dsp it use tiny mics you can place st your seat.
Meaning you can put mics on your head to adjust in your seat
aside of bass the obvious focal point for the speakers
They did sounded good had a fuller tone then most esl. The decay seemed ok too for the most part.

What we like and how we react at shows is an observational view
How we observe is complex and do we all
Use the same audio points to judge ?
I’ve been at shows with audio buds like us , just like us. Do they say the same well sometimes but also not.
This is a live action observation and it shows me we don’t or can’t possible agree
I used to feel we don’t hear the same but this is not correct in the context needed.
we hear as we have learned over our lifetime

I'm surprised folks would schedule an audio show in D.C. right after what turned out to be an "eventful" election in the US.
All presidential elections are eventful.

It would not have occurred to me that an audio show should not be scheduled around an election. I don't think one thing has anything to do with the other.

Life goes on. I hope.

I don't know whether the election played any part in the attendance of the show however the turn out was definetly lighter than last year. Is this the election? the dates? too many shows? apathy? I don't know the reason only the reality that the attendance was less.
I personally do believe there are too many of these events and they have become less special.

I agree. There are too many audio shows in the USA.

I would vote for three shows per year, maybe four shows per year. We certainly do not need eight shows per year.

Can we ask questions ? He seems to very knowledgeable on this room and it’s devices?

I want to go to Cedia this year. And maybe Dallas. The others don't interest me.

My gut says Audiophilia and the quest for new ever more expensive equipment is ending. My gut says its going to flip towards how inexpensive can you make it. Heck, that $1000 a pair bookshelf by Chesky has sold out twice. Fossi is popular. I bought it. Use it every day. I bought the Vanatoo for my mom. Amazing sounding. I am seriously thinking of getting them for myself. I just don't want to bother with setting up a big stereo.

Please enjoy my interview with Ofra Gershman of Gershman Acoustics about the 30th Anniversary Black Swan loudspeaker:

This is a very competitive sector of speakers. .Unlike others it is nor snobbish at all. It mates well with reasonably priced components. Highly recommended.

New York Audio show has occurred previously in 2024 (June?) plus earlier years, and has dates set for late October 2025 having been acquired by "T.H.E." Enterprises. It's reported to be limited to 30+ brands now and be a more intimate show. I have not attended, just reporting what I found.

My choice of the three on the East Coast would be Capital; the NYC show dates would clearly pile up and pull some number away from CAF.

You are missing California Audio Show (Oakland, CA).

Also, isn't there a New York show?

What does this actually mean? This is the typical exceedingly poetic yet meaningless, empty, misleading, bull**** that too many write and way too many are mislead by.
