Could you live with my system?

My system is probably the least expensive and least impressive one here. Correction: it IS the least expensive/impressive one, but it is what it is!

After having lived for years/decades to your own SOTA systems, how would you feel about having to downsize and live with what I enjoy day by day? Could you do it? Would your interest in the hobby wane knowing you would never again be able to own what you once had? Would you be able to enjoy that really special recording you searched for and acquired on something you know isn't able to reproduce it to its fullest?

Any hint of what it is? It's not in your profile. Thanks!

After 3 divorces, I've HAD to downsize! I had modest systems after that and enjoyed them just as much!

Why sad , good high quality audio can give a thrill which cheaper/lower quality gear cannot do so easily .
Doesnt mean i cannot live without it , hey its still a luxury

Agreed, but you don't have it (pretend that you don't). Could you still live with it and enjoy it?

Looks like a great setup. I'd say Yes, I am sure I'd enjoy it. I am not a TT guy but could learn to love it. Congrats!

Alot of these forums (but thankfully not this one) are all about "look what i just scored!" Like its a race to acquire the most expensive, latest gear. A few months ago, I was considering (and even posted a thread on A-Gon) about what it might be like for me to downscale and even go digital, faced with the prospect that I may not have the space for my current system (and the vinyl) when I move. A number of the responses I received were quite positive about how one could build a relatively modest system that did not compromise on the essentials.
I could also gladly listen to the system I used back in the early 70's- a pair of Quad ESLs, a modest tube set-up and a decent turntable.
The key to all this stuff, from beer budget to uber expensive, is to get the music to shine through. There are plenty of crazy expensive systems that despite all the latest and greatest gear, can't do that.

We may be related. 10 years ago I owned (MSRP) about 7 times (plus room) worth of audio (surround) equipment compared to today. And in my opinion, what I currently have is probably 90% to 95% of the quality of what I had 10 years ago for music and light years ahead for HT !!!

That last 10% is REALLY expensive !! But then again, so is a divorce:(

With the knowledge I have gained over the years, I could easily put together an awesome system for $1500 - $2000 with both digital and analog! (Not thinking I'm headed for another divorce!)

Other than the unnecessary phono stuff, looks fine!

John,

My systems (both the Italian and the NYC one) are nothing esoteric. I can tell that the Italian one (which is also more expensive) is better, but I'm frankly happy with both of them.

So, the question to your answer is YES.
I like technology and I appreciate the positive feedback that is triggered when you own something that is prestigious, so I guess that these two signatures make me compatible with the appointment to audiophilia, notwithstanding I'm mostly a music lover, I listen to music regardless the sound quality (I don't see why I shouldn't listen to artists I like even if they are not mastered that well...), I frequently listen to music as background while doing something else (also because I don't have that much time to do prolonged focused listening sessions, unfortunately) and I'd never play "Coal Train" in my home :))).
And to be a music lover, what you need is music...

Sometimes I think that, in my future, the chance to buy an expensive system may be more and more to be discouraged, as I don't see I'll have the chance to enjoy it as much it should deserve to be. On the other hand, I think I'd like to have the best I might afford, even without long sessions on daily basis.

Music is a pleasure and audiophilia is a luxury. It's just a matter to find the right spot on the ladder.

Given the number of divorces, the question should be, " Could my system live with you?";)

Funniest line of the day!! Thanks for that one!!

Yes, I could live with that system. While many here are as you acknowledge, at a much higher price point, that looks like a nice little system! You can get very nice imaging from those monitors, I'm sure.

At least based on what can be seen in the system picture, I'd wonder if you couldn't be advantaged by some sound treatments to that back wall. Rest of the room softer??

Enjoy!

CJ

---...Or music is the 'ride', and audiophilia is the 'road'. :b

...The car? It gets you there; don't matter how expensive it is.
...Some have more style than others that's all.

But during the trip (journey), it's all about the MUSIC to our ears and soul.
