With the d1-tube-mk2 the GIGAFILTER is a possibility but it is not mandatory. With the d1-direct-streamer the GIGAFILTER is highly recommended.

The new d1-tube DAC with built-in streamer has been released, it is available and the test by Michael Lavorgna has been released:

This DAC is even better now when another tube (a selected NOS tube) is used. This new tube is now used by default for each tube DAC shipping.

Perhaps it's just me but does it not seem a bit odd to put the headphone jack on the rear of the unit? It's hard to tell from the photos but are all sides except the back angled and that posed an issue with incorporating it otherwise?

The d1-tube(mk2) have no headphone output. Only the d1-single-mk2 and the d1-six have a headphone output, in the Totaldac DAC line all other have not.
The left and right side are angled but the front is not.
The left, right, front and top side have no screw at all and are completely smooth, so they have no headphone output as well.

Michael Lavorgna from TwitteringMachines.com has just tested the new selected/sorted tube for the d1-tube and he announces that he is now using a Totaldac d1-tube as reference DAC for the magazine. As context, he reviewed a Mola Mola Tombaqui DAC a few weeks ago among other.
All next tube DACs from Totaldac will now be mounted with these Siemens tubes.
