D'agostino Momentum S250 vs Simaudio 861

One of my power amplifiers is the Moon 860A v2, which can be viewed as the predecessor to the 861. For my uses, it’s practically faultless. However, I recall my surprise when I discovered that my Mark Levinson No523 solid-state preamp paired with the Moon sounds noticeably better than my Balanced Audio Technology (BAT) VK-53SE vacuum tube preamp paired with the Moon. The BAT is more to my taste when paired with my other power amplifiers. Possibly just a coincidence, but the Levinson’s maximum gain (13.5 dB) is closer to that of Moon’s line stage preamplifiers than the BAT’s (18.0 dB).

We are addressing D'Agostino's - not vintage Krell´s.

But by the time we had the ARC REF3, Krell had the FPB xxx C series and an excellent sounding solid state preamplfier, the KRC HR.

Probably not everyone cup of tea, but IMO a KRC HR with a KAS2 was a great sounding combo - I owned it with SoundLab's and Krell LAT1000.
Ecactly what I use in my main setup except I need four KAS2 monoblocks because my speakers demands that (or two stereoamps). The combo KRC-HR with KAS2is the best I have had driving my recent speakers! Chase finished.
