"Delusional Nice People" - Kessler still on a rampage

853, Great thoughts! I think that most of us in the thread have already accepted that high end audio is a luxury, while many of audiophiles, dealers, and manufacturers haven't. This is a big part of the delusion Kessler is writing about.

Well, I luxuriate in the music washing over me when I listen to my system. I just bought a KL Audio RCM and Silencer. Pretty darn expensive and if I amortized the cost per cleaning, insanity. But the convenience and results increase my enjoyment of the hobby. I don't know how to value that. I am lucky to be able to afford it and to simply enjoy it.

I just read Kessler's two articles, and am trying to read between the lines. My impression is that he's got something like the following in mind:

I can only guess this guy paid a fortune to get a water seal in his system... he obviously does not understand what separating the two conductors means in terms of electromagnetic fields. Delusional?

I love this hobby. I say spend whatever you want to if you have it and it makes you happy. There are worse things than being an audiophile! I've been enjoying this hobby for over 20 years, not rich, but have been able to buy and sale over the years to get to a place where I'm very happy with my system. If someone has the money to spend 100K on cables, I submit it's great! We can't put value on something for another person.

"We can't put value on something for another person."

We never do, that's why everything is so magnificent. I still listen to my 6 transistor AM mono radio.

:b ...I'm an International music man.

Hi Peter,
Well put. Most audiophiles I have met are very hard working and successful doctors, lawyers, engineers, and business people. Why should life be drudgery? Why not partake in luxury to restore yourself for your other pursuits? Thank God we don't live 100 years ago.

Denial is more than a river in Africa. A topic for a sister thread.

Hi Ack,

The way you are using the term, every audiophile is guilty, and we all would have systems designed by Ethan Winer.

Kessler openly admits he succumbs to these "bubbe meises" and old wives’ tales. I recently had the latest shunyata conditioner for my amps. Unfortunately, despite all the praise and hype, the dynamics of my system disappeared using the shunyata and I went back to plugging in the wall... But just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean the shunyata doesn't make the experience sublime for others...

The reality is this hobby is very subjective and situational and everyone is looking for their own personal high end audio experience...

According to a quick Google search, it's a DCCA Passion Master which if their website is correct, retails for $650. Or a $100 less than the Shunyata Black Mamba CX HC you have in your system.

Be well, ack,

I think I have said this before on this forum....why sell gear that is priced in the $100K's...why not in the multi millions of $$?? Seems like the industry knows how much they can get away with; resulting in a certain ceiling to the pricing! ( or maybe not, LOL) To many, a $90K DAC or a $300K speaker would seem crazy. OTOH, it appears that if a company comes along and decides its next flagship speaker will be priced at ---lets use a nice round number- $10M, then this could be ground breaking. Question really becomes this...when is the pricing of audio gear ( and we are not talking of rare art or uber cars or jewelry) become too high?? For many the current pricing trend is way out of reach, for some, it's very entry level. I am looking forward to the day that the $10M flagship speaker and the $5M speaker cable is here. I'm certain that these products will be snapped up. BTW, I understand that the new Wilson WAMM speaker was snapped up in the middle east. Why wouldn't it be? DW priced it way too low at $650K each.

Yup, a ridiculous bargain. Who would not immediately go for that?

That's a shame...
I was told that there wasn't even any negotiation on the price, LOL.
BTW, would you like to enlighten us on the number of Wamms sold so far...inquiring minds and all that.:D

What I can tell you is that we won't say who or how many. That was not the original plan but buyers have requested we respect their privacy. So it is now policy.

I will tell you that if you went through the invitation/order process today, you'd probably be looking at spring/summer 2018 delivery.

So, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being fantastic response...and 1 being a dud, how would you rate the response to the pricing and marketing of the Wamm? The exclusivity of an invitation process/order process aside, if one of my buddies decides to throw say...$5M at you for the next Wamm and he wants it delivered to his overseas summer house in a week..what are the odds?

Response would be an 11.

Now for your hypothetical buyer scenario:
First the vetting/invitation process is required before an order is accepted. If your buddy doesn't have a history of Wilson ownership, he likely would not receive an invite.
Second, the amount of money offered is not relevant. The price is the price.
Third, paint curing alone takes a week.
Fourth, the next WAMM being delivered has been committed for months.

So in answer to your odds question. Zero.

For $5bar , if I were first in line, I would sell em to you.
Here is a speaker at only eu 5 000 000

Rodney, you have to love it, lol. A gold speaker with a 5 mil euro price tag! Too bad they are only making one pair, I reckon they could have sold numerous pairs....assuming of course that they had an invite/order process in place:rolleyes:

Metaphacts, good to know that in case anyone wants to throw very big $$$ at you guys, you will stick by your marketing strategy.:D

WAMMs are sold through our dealers and distributors. So they wouldn't be throwing big $$$ at us.

If the guy has $5 large and needs speakers now, he should buy those gold ones.

Hi Metaphacts,
Is it possible to share % sold by continent? Surely privacy and confidentiality issues are abstracted this way.

PS. I hope you guys sell several thousand.
