Is there a good, better, best or do they all do the same. I ask only because of the news today re Hotmail.com which isn't really news at all. I find that an email address is tantamount to the same thing as a phone number

I have several email accounts depending on whom I don't mind getting emails from.

Personally I use Google for just about everything as I am amazed as to how much a Google email account can do for the user. So let's do a short poll of who uses what service and why

Same here, Google for just about everything..but I do use Yahoo too. I may try Outlook.

Gosh, do you remember those providers that are just a quaint footnote now?
Excite, AOL, etc...and now Hotmail.

Hello, Steve. I primarily use Yahoo. Though I only have 1 e-mail address, I see no need for another [just me]. I have tried Outlook and it's not as user friendly to me but keep in mind....a computer and I aren't the best of friends at times. There is much more I could stand to learn.

Hi Steve

I have used yahoo for a long time now. A also have a Google mail account that was mandatory when I bought my Google nexus, but never use it.

What is so good about Google email account that it does for the user?

I picked "other"; being a somewhat tech-savvy geek, I've *always* (and I mean, always) ran my own mail server. I've never relied on 3rd party mail servers, be they from my ISP, or Gmail and the like. I'm too much of a control freak to rely on others!

I've always had a Hotmail account and when I had MS Office used Outlook all the time. I've tried all the others as well, but I always go back to Hotmail (now Outlook).

The first time I had an ISP, I used the email by this provider.
At that time I din’t realize that the moment you move to another provider, your email address will change too and all the old email are gone at least on the server of the provider.
Solved that by using Gmail.

As I run a website, I have the domain name and email using this domain name.
If I move the domain to another provider, at least the email address remains the same.

I agree about the efficacy and smoothness as to how Google will import messages from your other email accounts when you switch over

I have a Comcast account that is used only for e-mails sent from audio forums. For my more personal e-mail, I use a local ISP who is a civil libertarian sort of guy that I trust completely. The guy is OCD about privacy matters. Besides, he throws in a little .ftp space. I think I pay $60 a year for that service.

I, too, have several email accounts but, except for the university accounts, I avoid Google since it does too much in trying to associate accounts and accesses when I prefer to keep them disassociated. That's the point of the separate accounts for me. Google also tries to associate my separate calendars. Feh.
