Emm labs DA2 v2 upgrade

Spoiler Alert - According to a reviewer (who himself owns a million dollar sound system) whom I communicate regularly, he said that the DA2i as compared to the DA2 V2 has "much more low level detail and resolution, more powerful and impactful bass, more air, large sense of space, better focused images, better depth, more analogue and this is equally true of Redbook CD and SACD."

Word from the factory is that all their energies are going into production of the DA2i right now. It will be months before they start updating V2s to V3s and work out the update price.

I was told 5k to go to V3 and 12k to go to DA2i, which includes the streaming features and new front face plate, and retail on a new unit to be 35k. Additionally, they won’t be doing upgrades for at minimum, 2 months, as they want to build the brand new units first. For me personally, I would want the streaming feature.

What is V3? I've only heard about upgrade to DA2i.

I was told it’s the DA2i but with out the streaming/networking features. So no need to replace the front panel & display or the rear panel.

Yes there will be an update coming for v2 owners. It will essentially be the DA2i but without the streamer and the new OLED display. No mention when but after the roll out the DA2i. My unit should be arriving in a couple days. It’s definitely got big shoes to fill.

Looks like a fun weekend!! I'd be especially interested in knowing how the DA2i streamer and NS1 compare, esp if you use the optilink connection...
Not sure if I misunderstanding you, but with a DA2i , you don’t need the NS 1. If you were asking how one box compares to two that’s a tough comparison because the 2i has a newer dac that is really quite remarkable, not the old one was bad

Thanks. Yeah, when I can pool the funds I plan on doing the full upgrade, but I'm still skeptical about having the steamer in the DAC instead of separated via optical connection.

I think I’ve had it for about 3 to 4 weeks. I have to confess I’ve been really busy at work and so can’t swear about break in. I do know that when I took out the old one and put it in the new the change was really dramatic. And for the better. In fact lately, I’ve been, going back-and-forth between vinyl and the digital versions and it’s astoundingly good in digital. I don’t have anything fancy in terms of servers and stuff like that. I just use Tidal Connect.
