First place to upgrade

Audible hiss when you are up close to the speaker with the volume level jacked up reduces proportionately as volume levels is trimmed down, no hiss near the listening position.

I think after all the respected suggestions I should try the speakers and I have thought to go ascendo top of the line the MS SE EW with the external crossover i dont know if external crossover helps improve sound but the speaker what I understand has got both time and distance alignment has anybody head them.

The Ascendo MS SE EW looks pretty impressive. I looked at the specs and at 91db sensitivity into 8 ohm your amp should drive them fine. I can't find the frequency responce on the net but they hint at going down to 20hz. I would ask Ascendo if they are designed to work well in a room of your dimensions. They look like they could be too large for your room. If you like the ribbon tweeters and they don't recomend the MS series for your room maybe one of the smaller models with a sub would be better. If you can get a in home demo that would be best.

Not sure about your hiss problem but I would not think you should hear any unless the volume is way up.

Though the system is quite resolving i feel as if there is a veil in front of the sound and the lows could be more in quantity, with more resolution in the highs, and a little more depth and authority to the sound,as for the room I have a 17.5ftLx11ftWx8ftH and for power i have everything running through a balanced transformer, racks I have none but placed the amp and the source on a 19mm ply on the floor.I am thinking the Ascendo MS SE EW which is quite expensive.
Could you also kindly tell me if the setup is put on switch on mode without playing any cd is it normal for the speaker to hiss a little bit.

Jasbir,

no, i don't consider it normal for there to be an audible hiss when no music is played at normal volumes. it should be dead quiet. you should not be able to hear anything from your listening position. if you turn the volume all the way up with no signal it is normal to have some slight noise.

i assume this hiss does rise and fall with volume change.

i would try the system directly plugged into the wall, and then into your transformer. any change?

speaker 'hiss' could be many things. you could try different grounding approaches, but normally a grounding problem is more a hum than a hiss.

maybe try different cables or possibly move your gear around, you could have RF interference.

sometimes a very highly efficent speaker system, such as 100db+ efficient horns can uncover noise that less efficient speakers do not. i'm not sure that the Ascendo's are like that.

ultimately you are looking for something that makes the noise change in some way to get a clue as to cause and effect to then get an idea of what is the source of the hiss.

Sounds normal as long as you can't hear it where you are sitting it shouldn't be a problem. There can be some hiss up close depending on the system.

You think the speakers sound veiled?? Why don't you try a different pair from a friend or a loaner from a dealer to see if they sound veiled as well.

Rob:)

--- OP, you can also try to turn off any halogen lights you might have, and dimmer lights too.

Yeah but that's more buzzes and hums rather than hiss in my experience. Also dimmers on the same circuit will add brightness (and yes, a small group of us did a DBT on that years ago). Quite shocking.

--- I know many people who interpret 'buzzes' for 'hisses'. :b

* With halogen and dimmer lights on, even the picture on your screen will 'hiss' or 'buzz' with snow!
...And the sound of your stereo and/or multichannel system of course.

Would you trust their hearing then? :) There's no mistaking a buzz for a hiss in my book ;)

Some dimmers actually cause the light bulb filaments to "sing" which is rather annoying. You really don't want dimmers around your stereo gear.

---Yeah, dimmer lights suck; they take the life out of your sound & picture!
They're no good in your room's serious hobby. A good upgrade is to get rid of them.
Same with two/three-intensity switch lights, and halogen bulb lights too.

* If you don't want to bother with this; just don't turn them on (leave them off for serious watching & listening).

Whats your take on the ascendo MS SE ew they are pretty expensive I am thinking of paring it with the Dart Int. will it be a over kill for the amp in terms of money spent on them or will i have to look up to upgrade the amp also to pre power to really get the best from the money spent on the speaker.

Gear seems good, speakers might be over-energizing the room causing ringing at mid and high frequencies, which totally destroys imaging and resolution.

And since any room has bass modes, those also will veil resolution.

Room treatment is step #1

Trust me, I custom designed my room for my speakers, then customized the crossovers, then did this and that, and not until I focused on room treatments and managing the energy being put into the room did the system come together. It took a *huge* amount of treatments and engineering to get it to where it now lets the system truly perform.

It baffles me that people (including me in the past) can ignore the obvious fact that room induced frequency and time domain variances make discussion of any other parameter insignificant until addressed.
