For what it's Worth-Tesla

Volvo made a big plant in the US. Too bad the cars have never matched the original road tractors they made, in any way, ever, since.

We should get my wife's ordered (Dezember '22) Volvo C40 by the end of August ('23)

Nothing shocking here.
We could have got the '23 Model immediately but we wanted to wait for the '24 Model (starting production end of July '23) because of better battery, better rear motor and better range.

Yes I. am picking on Tesla.

I think this is unfair. I have yet to see an accurate mileage estimate in gas or electric vehicles. Hence the term YMMV. Cargo, driving conditions, , and number of passengers all make a difference. The EPA while supposedly neutral is notoriously inaccurate. It is best to consult long range driving tests of something like Car and Driver.

As a very satisfied owner of a Tesla Model S for about 4 years now, I have to of course root for the home team. My Model S was manufactured about 30 miles from my house in the Bay Area! It was the most expensive car I have bought in 35+ years, after owning scads of BMWs, Audi’s, Lexus etc., but heads and shoulders above any car I have personally owned and driven since 1985. In 4+ years, it has needed no maintenance (like zilch, nada), except once when the Tesla folks came over to do factory approved service recall. Took like 5 minutes. All the many wasted hours in BMW, Audi, Lexus showrooms every few months waiting for my car to be serviced seems like a distant unpleasant memory in my mind, never to be repeated. Not to mention I can drive coast to coast free with my unlimited recharging. We recently went on two longish trips up and down the Pacific coast, driving totally about 2000 miles round trips. Gas cost = 0 (er., it’s an EV!). Recharging cost = 0!! I see all these dumb schmucks in my neighborhood with their huge gas guzzling SUVS, filling up locally in gas stations where here gas is around $6-$7. They must be paying hundreds of dollars a week in gas alone, ignoring maIntenance.

I think it was Seymour Cray, the supercomputer pioneer who once said: “If you have a great idea, you never have to worry about people stealing your idea. You have to literally shove it down their throat”. I feel that’s very apt for EVs, and Tesla’s in particular. The Model Y just became the world’s best selling car, period (move over, Toyota Corolla/Camry, Honda Accord etc. — you are history). Tesla is just getting started, BTW. Already, this year, they have sold close to a million cars. The nearest competition? Like GM? Around 20K EVs. They put out a lame Chevy Bolt, killed it, and are now bringing it back. Ford had a good thing going with the F-150 Electric, and then screwed it up by getting into reliability issues. When the Cybertruck finally arrives (really, how long will this take?), F-150s are toast.

If you really want a far out prediction, read this.

“We are on the cusp of one of the fastest, deepest, most consequential disruptions of transportation in history. By 2030, within 10 years of regulatory approval of autonomous vehicles (AVs), 95% of U.S. passenger miles traveled will be served by on-demand autonomous electric vehicles owned by fleets, not individuals, in a new business model we call “transport-as-a-service” (TaaS). The TaaS disruption will have enormous implications across the transportation and oil industries, decimating entire portions of their value chains, causing oil demand and prices to plummet, and destroying trillions of dollars in investor value — but also creating trillions of dollars in new business opportunities, consumer surplus and GDP growth.”

But its not a level playing field.
Who knows how everything would have gone with tesla without government involvement.

For example when choosing a company car overhere the tax advantages are directly related to low emissions
Choosing an EV is about 70 % cheaper in monthly payments.
The 70 % percent is all paid for by the government .

Off course people are gonna choose an EV company car , they re basically forced to do so .

And of course the tax model will flip. It always does. It's a zero sum game.

Guess what guys, Tesla’s really took off in sales after their tax incentives expired. The original federal tax incentives expired after they and others sold 200,000 EVs. CA had an incentive too but many states did not. Sure there is a new EV incentive, but to pin all of the success on the tax incentive is just wrong. Our family has 4 Teslas now two 3’s, and S and now a Y. Little to no service needed and a phenomenal driving experience. But folks here seem to think we are wrong with our choices. I will never drive another ICE car again.

I'm with you Joe. We have an S and a 3 Performance and those have been very enjoyable for my wife and I. I'm done with ICE as well. For us, it was a personal decision, being retired and looking to contain costs going forward. Our solar panels continue to make sufficient electricity to supply the needs of my home as well as being able to charge the cars and still not incur an electric bill. I must admit that I worried if my grid on my roof would be sufficient to satisfy all of these needs but in the past 4 months since owning the cars we still are generating a sufficient amount to satisfy all of our needs

I just test drove the BMW IX1 Xdrive30.
Saturday i ll testdrive the Tesla model 3 .
Harman kardon soundsystem , lol.
Certainly not bad this Edrive expirience , i really like the regenerative braking in town / heavy traffic
Lots of power as well.

I just finished the standard Tesla model 3 test ride , blue car
Drives really nice , call me a EV convert .
Quit and lazy / relaxed driving .
Just touch the gaspedal , hardly any need to touch the brakes due to the regenerative braking
Difficult choice between the BMW an the Model 3, both are great cars
The BMW is more spacious and has a more detailed luxurious feeling interiour .
The tesla has more range and has more power then the the BMW E drive 20.
I really like the white tesla with white interiour , looks kinda classy

One of our 2 teslas has white interior. Very easy to clean and without worry. Two drops of Dawn detergent in a quart of water. Spray it on and loosely dry it off.Its that easy.

It's the Tesla battery range that sells the car. None of the other auto makers even come close to the Tesla battery range

FWIW the Model Y is the largest selling car in America now

Yes real world test suggest they do come close. That is why Tesla is being sued.

Gee, it is amazing how accurate my M3 is when I navigate to an unfamiliar place both in terms of time and the state of charge I arrive with. Fraud my ass. If you drive over 70 for distance, with the AC on, you lose range faster. Same as an ICE car. same with very cold weather. If you preheat the battery though, you help mitigate that. These are all things any BEV driver knows or should know. Just because someone sues means nothing to me. I am a retired trial lawyer. All sorts of litigation are started with bad intentions.

BTW Steve, use Un scented baby wipes to clean the white seats. I keep a pack in the car .people who see my M3 seats are shocked to learn the car is 5 years old.
