My buddies and I are having another one of our GTG's today at member ptplayers' house. Rob recently got out of MCH and is now entirely focused on 2CH, with an emphasis on vinyl playback. In the last few months he's picked up some Sonic Frontier amps, a Roksan Xerxes 20 with Tabriz arm and DV-20x2 cartridge. He's also using a Sonneteer Hedley phono pre and Kudos C2's (I think) speakers.

None of us have heard his new setup yet, so this should be an interesting afternoon and we're all looking forward to it. We're each bringing some of our own fave LP's as this is more about listening to music and enjoying the company as it is about comparing media or gear. This is about friends with a common interest sharing an afternoon and having a good time.

Rob promised us a smoked brisket for a late afternoon lunch, and his wife put together a lasagna as well. :D. No doubt the food will help to absorb the few pints we will have had by then! ;)

Two of us are going to stop at my fave record shop beforehand to see if there is anything we may want to pick up, and also to look for some LP's we've been asked to look for. BTW...we always manage to do a few trades as well. It's a lot of fun.

Do you guys partake in these more casual type of GTG's?

I do, or at least I try to - we have a Thursday-night meeting with around 5 to 8 audio buddies and we switch homes once a week, this "tertulia" includes audio equipment, music and politics conversation ending up with nice dinner and wine (while we all trash the host audio-system) :)

Once a month we try to gather with families, but that is becoming a nice wish as time consumes our available time on weekends with teenager-stuff related activities.

LOL! That seems to be a running theme amongst our group as well! It's all in good fun though and we are all very supportive, which is why these GTG's work as well as they do. Three out of the five of us have young families (not me...I'll be 59 in July), so we need to plan as well. So when we do, it's always a great day.

Indeed - at the end our comments are proactive and looking to bring additional light from a different perspective to the other's system...these group includes DIYs, music fans, single and married with young and grown-up kids, music tastes from Hard Rock to Symphonic and wine preferences from Merlot to Shiraz :) it has it all!

Always :)

Don't expect to do much listening though, normally that's just the excuse to hang out. :D

Hello, John. I do whenever I can but unfortunately for me, there aren't very many audiophiles in Charlotte to GTG with. I usually drive down to Columbia or Atlanta for my GTG's. Atlanta seems to be a hot spot for those in our hobby and I have noticed that we have some members on this forum that are from Atlanta as well. Maybe I can meet some of them next time I'm in the area.
