Ok, where is the HTPC discussion area? They are making dedicated BDPs obsolete IMHO.

We don't have a dedicated area. Let's use this section and if there is enough interest we can make a dedicated area.

I for one, have sold my standalone and now I use my PC as my only source!!!! :) My wife can't wait until I connect our second HTPC (she can control it using her Android phone using Gizmo).

What part of Florida are you in? By the way, nice rig in your signiture - I'm a JRiver user myself! ;)

Are you purchasing movies/tv shows online? What sources have BR quality (sorry, Amir...that's not gear)?

Tim

I have mine now connected to the 12TB NAS, but it started life as an Intel DP35DP with 9550 cpu and the most expensive eVGA card I could find a few years ago in a SilverStone case. .

It uses Windoze Media Center with the cool remote "Green button". I catalog them using "My Movies" and it works better than a Kaliedascape system. I rip DVD's and BD's with it.

The Tampa Bay area. Thanks!

I'm ripping both my DVDs and Blu-rays to my RAID 5 storage. The play back quality for both picture and audio is on par if not better then my dedicated BDP. I'm purchasing both new and used blu-rays from Amazon. Paying on average of $10 for Blu-Rays. I use JRMC 17 on my dedicated HTPC. What a real joy!

For storage I'm using a drobo s with 5 3TB 7200RPM drives setup as RAID 5. I will be adding a second identical unit next week to mirror the first one for backup purpose. Be advised that RAID 5 provides data redundancy and is not a backup device alone. That is why I will be adding a 2nd unit next week for backup. Not cheap but I do NOT want to rip all my movies again if my storage device crashes, not fun.

Once I add my 2nd RAID I will post pictures.
