JackD201 - Almost Done

The Lair is pretty well documented now but come to think of it, I never mentioned all the other systems around the house. When my wife and I were building, I was adamant about not having pipe in music. Good as the top in walls and in-ceiling speakers are today, there just something wrong with how they end up sounding. As a result, I scattered systems around the house all running Sonos off of the main server except the bedroom that has it's own CD player. For the living and dining areas, I wanted room filling sound but I didn't want to have any "hot" spots so I went with Omnis. The best looking and most reasonable I could find were Duevel planets which I scored from a dealer friend. I matched these with Bel Canto S300s (neither with USB, one with an unused MM section). Mission accomplished.

The Bedroom system's speakers get changed pretty often. I do evaluations of the smaller speakers we carry here simply because it's easy to move stuff around and the acoustics are what one would find in a typical good but not purpose treated environment. The resident (owned) loudspeakers are Von Schweikert Unifield 3s on custom stands from Cor Dekker of Musical Reality in Holland, Pre and Amplification are the Valvet Soulshine and Valvet A3.5. CD player is an EERA Integral. The Valvets sell really fast so I've had 3 sets come in and out. If I run out of stock I'll probably put in my Aesthetix Calypso which has left it's box once and my old BAT VK-150s and hope my kids don't burn their little fingers on those 6c33s. I've already got a new batch coming in from Germany so that seems unlikely. Anyhow.....

There are two HTs. If you can believe it. We have no TVs in any of the bedrooms. There's just one 42" plasma in the family room and sound is via my really old stuff. A Popcorn, a Proceed AVP2, a BPA-3 and MF X-A50s for the rear. Speakers are Ambience Speaker Systems HF in-wall ribbons hybrids up front and Dali in ceilings in the rear. One sub only. A small REL T-150. The system usually stays off with just the TV running. Movies are watched downstairs in the HT. The other TV is a small LCD by the tub/jacuzzi in the Masters T/B.

The HT is built around a JVC D-ILA with a ceiling drop Elite Screen (I do not recommend this. It is a poor product and I am a victim of false economy). The projector however I find very good for the money. The Pre-pro is a Marantz AV8003, player an early generation Pioneer BD that has good video but you can watch your nails grow as it loads. L and R go through a BAT VK-31 SE Superpack the rest go direct to a BAT VK-6200 multichannel amplifier. All electronics are on CMS Reference platforms which I begged CMS to make one last run for me before they were discontinued. Speakers are Von Schweikert VR-4 SR Mk3s for L&R, VSA VisiUN center, rears are Ambience ribbon in-walls, and a pair of Ambience Band Pass Subwoofers. In the same room is the home server, a G5, which hosts the Sonos as well as the lighting automation. Strapped to these are Adam Artist 3s via an Apogee One.

We've got a guest bedroom which has become our study and play room. It's where my kids do their homework and stay with their friends when they have sleepovers. When they aren't in there, it's where I play DJ. In there is a pair of ethernet linked Pioneer CDJ-2000s, a DJM-900 Nexus Mixer hooked up to another pair of Adam Artist 3s. I'm trying to see if I can sneak my pair of Technics SL-1210 M5Gs in but it would mean sneaking in a big ol table too but I'm working on it!

I'll post pics soon :)

Ooops. Been playing Daddy Daycare with the kids on their summer break :)

Nice to hear from you Bill! School starts next week, I should have enough time to charge up the batteries on my camera! LOL.

LOL. Yeah, our school schedule in the Philippines is different. Summer rolls in in March and ends in June. Monsoons start in July. BTW I just took delivery of Keith's VR-44 Aktives since he's in Europe now with his family. Unfortunately, I've yet to fire them up. That daddy daycare thing again :D

Looks like I need to come out there during our winters!! Our spring and summer has been strange. We are usually around the 40s-50s in march but this year, we were in the mid 80's the first week in march! NO prediction of what this summer will bring although if we get another devestating flood, I am now 300 feet higher than the shop that was lost back in September. That was the second flood in 5 years an this time we lost everything. Not taking any chances on going through that a 3rd time. Purity is now up and running full speed ahead.

Keep us posted on your thoughts on the 44 aktives. I havent heard them since RMAF where the best they sounded, IMHO, was with the KR amp and the Purity Ultra GT linestage. A magical combination. That was my first real experience with KR.

They'll eventually end up being driven by either Lamm ML2.2s or Ayon Vulcans. Keith hasn't quite decided yet. I'll probably burn them in for him with a modded LSA Standard then put them through their paces with Lamm ML1.1s, BAT VK-150s and the new Valvet A3.5Rs. Pres will likely be Lamm LL2, L2 Reference and Valvet Soulshines and Soulshine8s. Front ends an EERA Integral and a Macbook Pro running puremusic into a 47 Labs Shigaraki DAC via Halide Bridge.

You should come over man! Bring a Ultra GT in 230V with red LEDs while you're at it! Hehehehe! They use just one pair of 12ax7s right? I've got an extra pair of matched and balanced TFK 803s I'd love to try on 'em. :D

Off to bed! :)

Dang! Out of 802s'! Try sending it over at AC Bill. I'll clear up my inbox here before hiting the sack.

Boy I've been lazy to take pics of the other systems. The bedroom system is getting a re-shuffle. New amp stands from Critical Mass just arrived for the BAT VK-150s so these will be set up in the bedroom with Unifield 3s. Inertia is a beeyotch. Anyhow, my wife and her buddies appear to have been frolicking around the house while I was out and one of our good friends, famous for her restaurant and lifestyle blog and who's Dad is THE biggest HT enthusiast in the country with matching lifesize storm troopers and Predators in his HT's lobby to boot, beat me to taking pics. She even took a short video and posted it! Her husband also supplies the best dry aged beef over here. Which reminds me, I gotta buy some soon.

Here's the link to Rica's blog.

There are links to the rest of the house, the kitchen dining and the art collection too.

I envy you my friend! (in the good way of course!!!!) very good taste all around..congratulations!

I also heard this morning about the earthquake there - hope you are fine!

Thanks guys!

You know what? I didn't feel a thing and neither did anybody I know. I wonder where the epicenter was. It must have been at sea because I heard just this evening that there was a tsunami warning for our eastern seaboard. I'll look it up.

Good. They have a tsunami warning in Japan...but are not expecting tide levels to rise more than 50cm.

I've seen most of these things in and around the house (and heard them audio toys too) but I never noticed the rabbits, or bunnies. :D
