Lampizator DSD DAC

That review is very honest and detailed in way that seldom I read. As it does find some faults thus only enhances the strong points of the great. Wow what a real, review. I did not not think they happened anymore . What other devices has that author reviewed ??

And my review of the Lampi Level 4 DAC wasn't honest?

Sorry mep,I did not read it. Please post a link so I may. I am sure you were honest as this is what this hobby needs more of .
Al

Oh ok that's nice place. Do you know frank I
From there mep ??
I will read it later. I am sure i will learn from it.
Al

I don't know who Frank is.

The lampi's sound is smooth and has the non digital sound to it at least the three I had did.
Al

So did one of the Lampi's come out on top in your DAC evaluations - vs. the Mytek, Directstream and the others?

I know the author on a personal basis, he had also reviewed Graditech cables and uses them in his system. He sent them to me to listen and so far they have been the best I have heard, though my experience is limited to Virtual Dynamics, Audioquest K2, and Crystal. He has heard a lot of dacs, uses a modded desktop transport (the T1 from item audio).

Yes Justin (user211) is probably buying it. I know him well, he runs Apogees and 211s. He initially thought he would restrict himself to the 4 due to the budget. He heard the 7 and was blown away and asked for it back. I haven't heard the 7 yet, probably this weekend if Greg manages to get both Big 7 and L7 to my place. The 5 for me was a big leap over the 4, so I am kind of scared by the 7.

What's important to note from the Hifipig review is the word 'height'. I noticed that too, the singer sounds taller - I have Logan Summits and the sound appears to come from the top as well rather than only the middle.

AS i have had my B7 for about 4 or 5 days now going 12 hours at 6 and 6 at a time . the pcm is as good or better than my msg stack . as it plays i am in amazement . the presentation is awesome its like hearing your music all over again. my home cpu stinks . and the dsd was good but not giving the wow that the pcm has. so i fired up my iMac and audirvana plus . i put on elvis 57 a dsd download . its only dsd 64 from analog . track 3 it has a simple clapping in left the channel . now clapping is a simple sound but so is a piano and most dacs stink at it , this dac is giving me the texture of the hands as they clap. the only time i have heard this is with my msg . this may seem simple but its a milestone . this dac has given me my wow moment. i can hear into the recording so deep that gives me chills of realism . i now have my WOW moment
thanks winson , rob and most of all lukas for this device and at this price its an even better wow for me.

Congrats Al....and its not even broken in yet. Wow.

I will be getting my own in the next 2 months...

It's a great choice. And you will be happy
It is a fantastic to listen to. Worth the wait in the end.
Get the VC. As it can drive amps direct
And I do feel
Less is more unless you like the sound added from a preamp.
Synergy and taste do rule at times.

VC is on order

I got my Lampi back from Lukasz a few days ago and wanted to share some thoughts with you.

DSD is of course the pearl of the DAC. I'm going to convert all my flacs to DSD in the next months or use JRiver on-the-fly, I have to compare these two in the next days.

May I suggest you use ASIO-proxy instead of using Jriver's internal converter? ASIO proxy is part of the Foobar pool of software, but can be used with Jriver or any software that uses ASIO. In my opinion, its conversion of PCM to DSD is superior to Jriver. It can also upsample or downsample DSD.

Thorsten Loesch measured the PCM>DSD conversion of Jriver, ASIO proxy, and Weiss Saracon (non-realtime), and found ASIO proxy to be superior. Jriver introduces a significant amount of pre and post ringing (linear phase filter). Saracon emulates an IIR filtler than pretty much destroys the impulse response. ASIO proxy on the other hand, had excellent impulse response with no added ringing.

My ears confirm this as well. The guy that coded it is a genius. Free, easy to use, lots of flexibility, and is the best sounding one by far.

Thanks for the post. I have read about this. But I did not have time to try it as yet.
My way for now us on an iMac with audivana
It's the best I have going with my B7 so far.
Regarding PCM and DSD. For me I am do happy with the PCM as is
And have not tried up sampling.
